OK, I caved in and bought Star Trek. I'll get it on Tuesday.

If I wasn't still recovering from Christmas, there are at least a half dozen titles on that list I would buy. I hope there are more sales like this in a couple weeks.

Buy it. I too had some bad disc problems with it, but you just notify Amazon if you do, and they will promptly send out a 2nd set. Don't send back the first set yet. Test and keep all the discs from the 1st set, and then any that are bad, test and keep the discs from the second set.

Unless you are terribly unlucky and get an identical bad disc in both sets, you should be okay. I had 2 bad discs in the first set, but those 2 were fine in the 2nd set...

I.e. mix and match to get one good set, then send the bad set back. That's what I did!

I bought 3 Uni discs in the 50% off, and I'll go ahead and get 3 or 4 Paramount titles now.

Nice sale. I'm almost disappointed that there hasn't been a true "fire sale" of HD DVD titles yet (where those of us with HD DVD can clean up), but I'm also happy to continue to support a great format.

Picked up "The Sting" and "The Searchers", thought it was time to have some classics in the collection

Ah f*ck this. I haven't bought an HD DVD since the WB announcement because I just want it to go away, but this makes me buy Old School and Anchorman because I've been waiting for them for so long. God damn you Paramount.

They'll send you out a set without returning yours first? I know I returned something but they wouldnt refund me the money until I sent it back first.

Yes, they did for me. I've never asked Amazon for a refund, just for an exchange. In the case of Star Trek (and much earlier when I had a defective Seabiscuit disc) they sent out the replacement almost immediately upon my contacting them about the problem. With ST I just waited a few days until it arrived. Meantime, I kept watching the discs to determine which were good (all but 2 were).
