It stems from the civil war, anyone from north of The Mason-Dixon Line was considered a yankee. It's all in fun now. We all move around from place to place such much now that we are all intermixed.

This won't be the Spurs' year, they seem to only win on even numbered years... how many rings tdo the Celts have in recent history... since lArry Bird and the group retired?

No doubt the Celts have a much improved team but like the Pats this year, being crowned champs too soon is not a good thing

Maryland is south of the Mason-Dixon line. So unlike what the previous poster stated, I am not a Yankee. Which is good, since Im also a Red Sox fan.

No, they need to change the title to: Five reasons the Celtics won't win the championship.

I'm not familiar with this "shite" of which you speak. Is that some kind of rock? Is it valuable and that's why I would want a Shite-paneled Blu-ray player? I have a wood-paneled VCR, and it's quite lovely, but I bet shiterock paneling would be much prettier.

I used to collect rocks. I would spend hours studying the cleavage of various specimens, enjoying the gentle curves, and how they shone in the sunlight.

But then I got a wife.

And my cleavage-viewing days were over.

It turned my life to shite.

I gotta go with the Cavalier fans on this one. I'm from Cincinnati, and UC's basketball program has gone down the shitter since they fired Huggins. So now I take the road trip up to Cleveland to watch LeBron and Co.

Great team, just needs to get tougher on the boards and on D.

They have HD DVD players? All the ones I see are upconverting DVD players that will play HD DVDs.

Reason #6 - Because Sony controls the BDA and wants to control the world with their proprietary codecs.

I wasn't aware Sony owned any of the codecs. I thought they were owned by either MPEG or Microsoft (VC-1).

Sony dominance of the professional arena (Umatic, betacam, DV) doesn't seem to caused any long-lasting harm.

Sony's ownership of the CD license doesn't seem to have destroyed our love for music on disc for the last twenty-five years.

Get real.

Your fears of Sony are irrational. As irrational as those who fear closed spaces or bugs.

Default I am so tired of

people ignorantly claiming that Sony developed the audio CD. In fact it was a equal partnership between Philips and Sony. To my memory, Philips worked on the specs for the CD format itself and Sony worked on the hardware. When Philips, then sold in the US as Magnavox, debuted their first player they chose to abandon Sony's initial design and released their own very unique hardware (I owned one from the get go). That first Philips/Magnavox player design went on to become quite popular as the basis for high end manufacturers modifications, usually the Mag player with their d/a circuits. I think most audiphiles preffered it over the Sony, particularily when moded. Despite its pioneering work on the CD format, no one gives Philips an ounce of credit here in the US and that really chaps my "jewel case."

If you use that logic than you must consider BD developed by Sony/Pioneer/Panasonic.

You can't just pick and choose when to call Sony's name when it is backs up your opinion.

Philips had CD up and running long before Sony really, however at that time it was a 60 minute disc. Someone high up at Sony (I forget who) then stated he wanted someones symphony on it which was 74 minutes long without changing the disc and so Sony managed to convince Philips to opt for the 74 minute version, rather than their 60 minute version which they already had plants set up ready to manufacture.

Sony really just didn't want Philips ahving such a lead on the technology. But I'm sure everyone on here is now happy it was a 74 minute disc instead of 60 minute.

Sorry, don't follow your logic in your first sentence nor characterization of my post in your second. Don't know why you are defensive about it?

My post was pointing out that people just hear things and pass it on without really knowing the facts. My post was stating how that kind of ignorant regurgitation annoys me.

It is a fact that Philips and Sony co developed the CD, that's history kiddo.
