Vertigo on HDM NOW!

According to blu-ray fan Bill Hunt:
"Finally, studio reps revealed that 4 major catalog titles (The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Woodstock and North by Northwest) are all soon going on moratorium. The good news is, each will reappear in 2009 in day-and-date DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases, complete with stunning new high-definition restorations to celebrate their own individual anniversaries." Three of these will tempt me over to the blu-ray side, but apparently it will be at least a year from now before I have to make a decision. Perhaps by then Sony et al. will have smoothed out the profile issues and will have reasonable prices in place on their players. (If Vertigo comes out on blu-ray, I would pay a less reasonable price up to $500 for a player as long as it is 2.0 and works well.) I want North by Northwest, Gone With The Wind, and The Wizard of Oz in high def. I have never seen Woodstock--is it considered a "major catalog title?" I assume it is about the dirty hippie music/drug festival and not about Snoopy's avian friend. Either way, I doubt it would interest me.

No thank U, I`ll buy them on SD DVD if they are not released on HD DVD. No point in buying a lesser BD fomrat that costs an arm & a leg and does not offer what HD DVD has been offering from day one
![]() Profile 2.0 players for $500, more like over $1000.

Oh, please elaborate where one can buy a 2.0 BD player today for $400. Did Sony push out the 2.0 update for the PS3?

Err.. the 2.0 profile hasnt launched yet. When it does any 1.1 profile player with an internet connection can upgrade. Its like updating the firmware on your HDDVD.

Do you mean any 1.1 PS3 can be upgraded or are you saying all the BD SAs that are 1.1 will be 2.0.. if they have an ethernet port?

Are you sure? The requirements as far as physical memory goes is not the same between 1.1 and 2.0. The only one that I know of that is futureproof is the PS3. Do you have links or articles demonstrating this for any of the other profile 1.1 players?

Right now the only one available is the PS3 no other player has the hardware to enable it be upgraded. Maybe they will come along but I imagine they will be 2.0 spec players coming out instead of producing 1.1 players to be upgraded with firmware later, the first one (Panasonic BD50) should be here by summer.

$300 isn't a great price for a BD player. Oh, you are talking about the PS3? What capability are they going to remove to lower the price? Gaming?

He is referring to the rumor of the $299 PS3, I think it might happen, it just didn't happen when the rumor said it would back at the end of last month.

After they implement BD+ though, they will no longer need this primitive anti-piracy system. However, it is still recommended that you turn the front of your PS3 away from you so the camera can't see you, and also to always wear a tin foil hat when watching Blu-ray movies so the radio waves don't damage your brain.

Last I heard none of them except the PS3 met that requirement.
