An 87 is not bad at all. My best was an 85. I do have some days around 98! Not too many though or I would have to drink more!

My best round was a 78 and that was bogeying the last hole. I have not been able to get close to that score in years since I hardly ever have time to go out any more. I did that when I use to go weekly, but i would be lucky to break 90 at this point.

My scores are more typical to that. I was very shocked that I had that good of a round considering this is my first time out this year. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

It really doesn't matter what the score is. You will likely have at least ONE great shot in a round that will get you going back out no matter how horrible a round you may have.

Golf is a humbling game even for Tiger Woods now that he is distracted by his wife and knows there is more to life than just golf.

I already see his game improving now that the honeymoon is over.

This my 3rd year at it. I only have time to go about twice a month in the summer. My 1st time I ever went golfing I shot a 140! PFC5 is right, there is always one shot that makes you come back. I could take 10 strokes off my score if I could just putt.

Golf . . . . another sport I sucked at.

Got so fustrated with it (20 years ago) - that I left my clubs and bag in the middle of the 9th fairway - walked to my car and never played again.

I've been bowling for 20 years and I carry about a 190-195 average.

My problem isn't putting, that's a strength.
My problem is 1) Driving 2) short game.
Middle irons and putting are my strengths, but I don't play to them, I want to smash the ball off the tee so desperately that I try it even though 65% of the time it's going to take a 90 degree slice.

I made a golf thread in the sports forum a month or two ago and it didnt' get a whole lot of attn.

I've been playing since like 2003 but have only played about 20 times in those years since.

I can't drive. And therefore I only play the par 3 short courses. Seriously, when I drive the ball it literally shanks off to the right and hits the fence surrounding the tee box every time. If I'm lucky enough to hit it straight, you would just call that gopher killing.

I used to try to kill my drive and it would always slice. I'm not a big hitter so I slowed down my swing so I could hit it straight. I'll take 225yds in the fairway over 280yds in the woods any day.

My first year I broke 40 for 9 holes, but I was doing 9 holes about 3 times per week. It is the VERY rare person who is a natural at golf, and I am certainly not one of them. I have a friend who IS such a person and he can come back and golf after not playing for 2 years and shoot par golf.

The most impressive "natural" golfer I ever heard of was Jim Brown (former pro football player and one of the greatest running backs EVER). The first time he ever picked up a club he did it at a golf course and broke par. Now THAT is a true natural athlete.

I look at putting as every missed putt is like duffing a tee shot, since it cost the same stroke. The worst part of my game that first year was my short game and mostly chip shots. When I started out, I was hitting it back and forth over each side of the green.

I solved that problem by grabbing a typical buck and putting it about 15 feet away in the yard with 20 golf balls and just practiced trying to chip it into the bucket. doing this 3-4 times for an hour + solved that problem. The bucket is important because most yards are nothing like a typical green so you practice/work on the "in air" accuracy, and then work on the roll when you are at the practice green before a round.

I also find if I practice for 15 minutes on the practice green before going out, I can shave 5+ strokes off my game. This is important to help judge the speed of the greens on that particular day. The speed can easily change with the weather so this is VERY important to improve your putting.

I hope this can help some fellow duffers.

I usually play with friends at the local "goat ranch" as we like to call it. Their motto should be " Where the greens are fast and the play is slow ".

I can't play golf, Hell I got banned for life from Buckaneer Bay at Myrtle Beach cause I got ticked and knocked the crap out of a ball. Apparently there is some kinda rule in goofey golf that says you can't yell "Far!!!!!!" and see how far you can drive a golf ball with a putter. Rules like that need to be posted.
