Describes myself pretty much also. Fish I catch are usually smaller than the bait.

I went to BassPro in Springfield MS. it is paradise. It was so big that I went back the next day to finish looking around. Last of the real men stores.
I tried to warn you that fishing was addicting.
1. Fishing . . . mans quest to outsmart a fish . . who we all think is a dumb animal . . . which they are not.

EXAMPLE:

Small Blue Gills school at the shoreline - 15 to 25. I like to throw in bits of bagel about the size of a silver dollar. They go nuts and it brings in the Bass which like to eat these fish. That is how I caught my two Bass today.

So we caught a few of them and used them as live bait. They last much longer than a shiner and can move the float around. I Already caught a 2 lb LM Bass this way.

So I had the idea of trying to net a whole bunch of them at once using the bagel. First time I did it it worked great - got 4 of them.

Now - as soon as I come to the waters edge - no matter how much floating bagel is in front of them - they will not move a mm. Soon as I go back on the grass . . . they attack the bread. THAT is not dumb by any means.

2. Collecting stuff - which I love to do. And fishing stuff definitely somes under that heading because . . . technology does help in the battle (see #1).

The only walleye I ever caught was by accident. I was actually catfishing when I caught it. I know several people that say they are great eating.

I fish on the Catch and Release program that FL Wildlife enourages all anglers to do. . . and I agree. The fun is definitely in catching them.

Plus - these are the So. FL Canals I am fishing in. Not the safest water as far as mercury levels.

In the ocean? Absolutely - eat what you catch.

This is absolutely correct. The best overall fishing bait (artificial) is a plastic worm. Nothing fancy. It takes a little practice but a plastic worm will net more bass than any lure out there. Pros won't use them in tourneys cause you have to work them slow. If you watch a pro in a tourney, if he gets a strike but no fish, he will grab a pole with a worm and cast into the same spot to catch the fish.

My son is a worm lover! He has every color in the ranbow. He also fishes the rubber crawfish and has been successful catching bass with them. And he LOVES his frogs - the legs "swim" when you reel in.

The swim bait I just bought is very good. It has the tail of the worm - is a whiteish clear with a single hook. Just cast and retrieve. They will sink to the bottom so you can jig them or dive and surface. I believe Storm makes them.
