I think we need a little prompting. What you all think about this?

gotta call it a night. I have to fix my oldest daughters brakes tomorrow. I have no idea what she does to them. I put new pads and rotors on it 8 months ago and they are both shot to hell. Oh well better enjoy this dad thing while she still needs me. All I can say is the man she marries better be mechanically inclined.

Uh, yeah. My son's car is sitting in the driveway with a busted timing belt. Been told with water pump and various pulleys, it will cost $675 with labor. How's that grab you??

I wish. I'm totally mechanically challenged. I mean - I don't even change my own oil. (yeah, yeah, I know)

There are a few of us in the world that just don't know what the hell we're doing when it comes to mechanical stuff. I'm one of them.

As far as changing my own oil goes, I don't . Between buying the oil, the filter, and taking the old oil to be disposed of, it's too much hassle. I just pay to have it done.

You are right. They are notorious. And, yes, that price is per the dealer. How much too high do you think they are???

We went to a local mechanic, and he was gonna charge $475 - but he told us things that made us suspicious. Like the valves could not be warped on this model. The dealer told us that is not correct - that since the car was being driven when the belt broke, that warped/bent valves is the highest concern.

Unfortuntely dealer labor rates are usually substantially higher than Svc Stat lbr and yes it's possible that valves and rods could have been damaged if car was being driven when failure occured if it happened at start up they most likely wouldn't have been damaged. repairs should be aabout 4-4.5 hours + parts
