Just in case kampsy pops buy, I'm using a little bit of charcoal and mostly apple wood to cook my steaks, potatoes and sauteed oninions on. I've tried every type of wood there is but apple is the way to go. The whole family complains when I switch to a different type of wood. Apple has its own distinct flavor. Kinda smokey with a little tang.

I just cut down apple trees, prune the limbs up. Any time I can get a hold of a piece of apple I take. My father in law has some apple trees so in the fall or early spring when he trims them I grab the wood from it. I'm not sure about buying, I've never had too. But I'm telling you, if you use it you will never use anything else.

If I can find some I'll give it a try. Always used hickory.

I use to use hickory or oak, have even used mapple, but after I used apple I can't imagine using anything else.

Apple has its own flavor. It has a bit of a tangy taste, kinda like biting into a Granny Smith's apple. It gives steaks and especially pork products a great flavor.

I'd love to have you guys that hang out at the Bar and Grill over sometime. I'd smoke some pork ribs and cook some potatoes on the grill. When I smoke ribs I do them right. Takes me between 12 to 14 hrs to do. I make my own bbq sauce.
I'd have you guys over, it would be like the Hank Jr song. Have a pig in the ground and some beer on ice and all the rowdy friends be over. LOL.

That would be great. I like to put at LEAST a 10 hr smoke on my ribs. Low heat lots of smoke is the way to go.

I don't know any other way to do it. Restuarant ribs are ok but nothing like truely smoking them. Hell you oughta know you are in the meat smoking capital of the U.S.

You gotta rub em down with butter and brown sugar before smoking them.

The Good . . . The Bad . . . And The Ugly:

The Good - "George" (Mr. Fisherman has given my pet a name) has returned!

The Bad - I was using my most expensive lure - $7 when about 6 feet from the waterline - a Peacock Bass hit it. We fought for a few moments - then he managed to get under a rock and spit the lure out wedging it under the rock.

The Ugly - I lost my favorite and most expensive lure.

PLAN A - Back to Wal-Mart to replace it.

PS - tried our new Lure Retriver - it didn't work.
