When are studio execs going to acknowledge that DVD replacing VHS was a bonanza that was impossible to sustain long term? Of course early sales for DVD were gangbusters, but the hole has been filled. Naturally sales are going to drop off. They have saturated the market.
If HDM is their answer to their imagined suffering, they are in for a disappointment I'm afraid. HDM is not going to do to DVD what DVD did to VHS. It isn't that much better from a consumer standpoint.

Lionsgate deserves the sales.
They are really trying to push the envelope the furthest in Home Video IMO. |

They would appear to be now, and finally they are starting to get some good quality (as in decent film) day and dates out the door too. But last year their Blu-ray output was abysmal in quality.

Maybe Warner figured that even if BD fails, it will bring people back to buying SD DVDs due to the high price of entry/movies on BD. I think this is wrong also, but just a thought. I think people are renting more than ever and are just not buying as many movies as they used to.

Crank, American Psycho, Ultimate Avengers were all excellent. I haven't seen the Saw flicks in HD, but I heard they were good PQ/AQ wise.

I agree that saturation has been reached with a DVD player in every home that wants one. IMO, that was why they wanted this new format(s), hoping that everyone will go through the process all over again, but not likely to happen.

It's all about douple/triple dipping. I bought Total Recall on VHS, then 2 different versions on DVD, and just got it in Blu-Ray the other day...
The same goes for players of course. CEM's need more players to sell. Everyone has 2-3 dvd players already. (ok, so I'm a sucker for bad sci-fi movies, and for buying movies over and over, but everyone has their flaws )
