Great thread. It's good to see Toshiba push the HD DVD format. We need competition in this industry to drive prices down.

Excuse me, but what is with all the negativity? Can you please stop posting stuff like this unless you have something pertaining to the topic at hand.
Thanks

...still waiting for my 5 free movies from Toshiba. I call them every couple weeks. Still the same response. "Not shipped but still in process."

Seriously... mid-October that was received and still no discs? 8-10 weeks my ass.

I think the article is new enough, but it really is only regurgitating (is that spelled correctly????) bits and pieces from the last few weeks, possibly with the exception that HDDVD will remind users of BD that they don't have internet capabilities currently. (can't remember that sentence before).

I'm expecting Toshiba (if they want to stand a chance) to come out with a bit more specific plan, and especially focus on two areas:
1. Retail Presence. They need to buy (additional) space (endcaps) at Best Buy and Walmart if the situation is like it is today (or gets worse). If nobody can find much software in the stores, the perception will be that the format is dead. Cheap players sold/used for upconverting won't do anything for the HDDVD format.

2. They need to do a lot better with commercials during primetime, and possibly put down the money to get a superbowl commercial.

I agree... I constantly see ads for Blu-Ray everywhere... in magazines, on the internet, on TV... but can't say the same for HD-DVD.

ahhh.... but if they wait too long for this "massive" advertising push, it won't really matter how great they are... too many people will have been shown the Blu light and will have embraced it.

I actually saw the shrek/hd-dvd ad on DiscoveryHD about an hour ago. Now if they can have some political style Blu-ray smeat ads. Like Budlight and miller light do.

"a completed spec, unlike that of blu-ray"

"great upconverting capability for a great price"

possibly a humorous commercial about not wanting to watch Hd movies on a gaming system.

It could be alot of fun.

Blu-Boys, Im just having fun...please don't firebomb my thread.

Good idea. We just have to wait & see what Toshiba does next. The longer this format war drags on the better for all of us.

This month's sound and vision magazine is full of HD DVD ads.

Actually noticed this as well last night when I was at my local Borders and picked up a copy of Sound & Vision. I was like "ah..finally...some HD-DVD ads." About freakin' time. And they were actually pretty good too...unlike the lame-o Shrek the Third TV commercial that's been airing every once in a blue moon on TV.
