Even decent up-converters are more than $50. In addition, this does HD. Just stop with the trolling. It is oh so tiresome.

I know exactly what you mean... I would do the same for Blu, with one stipulation... They would have to make a player worth a flying F@@@.. I mean seriously, I started looking for a bd player right after the warner anouncement and I am seriously disappointed... There isnt a player made comparable to the a35 or xa2 in the same price range besides the ps3 and even it cant do some audio codecs. Plus, I just cant make myself have a toy as a center piece of my home theater...maybe they will get something better out soon..

I'm not sure I would. Eventually, all the movies that have been released exclusively on HD-DVD will come out on Blu-ray now so what would be the point? I'd rather put the $50 towards buying more Blu-ray titles.

Even at $100.00 they are well worth having. Really good value for money.

Hitachi is correct, it was $99 not long ago. I can see it hit $80 in some wild sale soon. But if they can get some to be $49...I am in.

I just bought 3 Blu movies yesterday on Amazon 50% off, Paprika, Teekinkreet, and Layer Cake. Even at 50% off, that bunch costs me $60.

Yea, I think that even at $50, todays SA BD players simply are not worth it. I would end up getting rid of it, before my HD DVD players.

Then I suggest you are more interested in format for the sake of picking a side than HD movies. At $50.00 you would be crazy not to buy one. You find an upconverting player that has PIP and Internet activity and plays HD DVD disks for that sort of money.

The same goes for blu ray. If they released a format 1.0 player for $50.00 I would snap one up without hesitation. It plays HD movies for crying out loud!

If HD-DVD had won the format war then I'd agree with you. (Mind you, if it had, you wouldn't be seeing them sell players at $100.00 so it's a bit of a moot point).
