Default DVD vs Blu Ray

Ok, no more HD-DVD vs Blu Ray talk. HD-DVD is dead.

and Blu Ray will win against DVD. A couple of critical Reasons being:

-HDTVs becoming affordable, expecially next christmas an beyond.

-Even PC video game sales are decling while Xbox/PS3 sales rising- why? Due to the fact that many gamers now own large HDTVs and don't want to play on tiny monitors anymore.

-Affordability is overrated. People will pay a little more for a lot better video and audio. BD prices will only drop over time.

in 5 years, next topic- Downloads vs Blu Ray.

HD DVD is not dead though limping horribly.

I don't think blu will pass DVD anytime soon. People don't want to replace the DVD player in their mini-van, portable players and all the other locations that DVD has made a home. With Blu not having an answer other than buying two versions of the same movie blu will be severely limited. IMO of course.

I don't know about Blu Ray vs. DVD.

DVD is like the king of all cash cows. And in other countries it's catching on like it caught on here 3 or 4 years ago.

You can find them in supermarkets.... DVD is kicking so much butt.

I think that Blu Ray will thrive though.... Time will tell.

In terms of not wanting a portable player for the mini-van...

I think this is where the scratch protection will come in. You can scratch the hell out of a Blu Ray and it still plays. This is a big advantage over DVD for rentals and also for people who take movies in the car.

Since the portable players use mostly LCD's... Having HD or 1080p isn't much of a problem.

HD in the car makes no sense and I agree the scratch protection, though being required, is nice. I still get scratched blu-rays from netflix but they have all played.

Hopefully it is a very big niche.

Will companies send out promotional BDs instead of DVDs (Bo-Flex for example)? I doubt it.

Will children's toys come with a bonus BD (many of the toys I got for my kids this year came with a promo DVD)? I doubt it.

If digital downloads were not looming around the next 5-15 years, BD would have a much better chance IMO.

All we can do is continue to buy HDM in the hopes that it will be continued to be released.

Phillips already has a $350 player in the works. The BDA has said from the start that player prices would go down considerably over time and so far they have. Hell, a year ago BD players were at least $1000 (Thanks HD DVD! ). Just think how low the prices will get if chinese manufacturers get in the game!

It's going to be a hell of a fight but if the BDA really gets the word out about Blu-ray it could really catch on. I think in a couple years "Blu-ray" will be a household name, despite whether or not they actually own a player.

Bingo!

That is what the BDA is doing well. Many of my Joe 40oz. family has begun to ask me about Blu-Ray.

HD DVD isn't dead yet.

Afford ability is not overrated according to thousands of polls.

People will pay more for a lot better video and audio? What is better? Certainly not Blu, it is the same as HD DVD.

Stop with all of this FUD.

I have noticed this. My boss and another co-worker both want Blu-ray players and neither want PS3's. I told them of the profile issues and recommended the game console but neither wanted that.

The lady that watches my daughter bought her son a PS3 for christmas that is hooked to a SDTV. She plans on transporting it to the main tv if they want to watch a blu-ray otherwise he will game on the regular tv. She said today that they plan on buying an HD DVD player for the main tv since the cost is only $299. I told her to wait until it is on sale and recommended amazon. I also mentioned the warner defection but that didn't seem to sway her since she needs an upconverting dvd player anyway.

Last time I checked movies are still announced and I can still buy a player at a B&M. They are hurt but not dead. So far it's aggravated assault with the paramount bribe by HD and attempted murder with the warner bribe by Blu.

This place is turning into a big circle jerk fest between BD supporters. Seriously, get over yourselves.

Let's see. As of April 2007 . . .

250 million DVD players in the world

300 million PC's with DVD drives in them.

150 million Laptops with DVD droves in them.

100 million Video Game Consoles with DVD drives in them

DVD players cost as little as $25 and movies are priced starting at $3.99.

Oh . . . .forgot . . . 8 BILLION DVD's in the wild - not counting computer software or DVD-R's.

Now tell me again about BD replacing DVD.
