Did their MSRP really go up, or was it a time limited sale though? You can still get a Blu-Ray player (sharp) at Value Electronics for 299.

Pretty sure the MSRP didn't actually go up. If you checked the prices they were listed as sale prices. Would have been nice if they stayed at the lower price though.

Normally I wouldn't respond to such an ignorant statement such as this but I'm growing tired of both the sulking and the ridiculous claims.
"They are the better format"
- Simply opinion and should be stated as such.

"too short sighted to understand why"
- Because these companies do not share your OPINION, does not, necessarily, make them short sighted.

"free BD drive with a children's video game machine"
- Firstly, the BD drive inside the PS3 is most definitely not free. It wasn't the most expensive console in the market just to be able to play games equivalent to that of the Xbox 360. Secondly, the PS3 is not necessarily a "children's" toy, of course, not that that would make it any less of a BD player. Many PS3 users are adults, at least all the ones I know are, and I'm sure as of right now, a great number of them are.

The bitterness and sulking is getting to be very tiring. As a BD supporter, I'm very empathetic towards HD-DVD supporters since recent events. I'm sure you dislike it how some other BD supporters have been gloating, suggesting that you've wasted money, etc. But what you're doing is no better. Very graceful post, very graceful.

Yep. And Michael is for the red team it looks like.

That "News" was about as bland as plain tofu. WTF was that supposed to be, some big rally speech? That sucked.

How can a statement based on FACTS be ignorant?

Cool

The Toshiba Management and the HD PG are still too stunned to get their proverbial acts together to be able to provide more that this! Toshiba Marketing is asleep at the Damage Control Helm!

I'm sure that Jodi Sally is also running a little more nervous than usual about her future with Toshiba.
a) To not see this as a possible outcome b) To not be prepared for this as a possible outcome
c) To let this even BE a possible outcome!
d) BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON THE LINE!

Face it Jodi, you were had and it will cost you and potentiall all of us HD DVD fans, as this deal apparently happened some time ago! (based upon when and from whom the rumor started)

Trust is a Bitch when it comes to MONEY, huh Jodi?
And the Warner folks didn't even buy you dinner first! Or did they?

Hmm what would Donald Trump do here?

I know in my company, there would have been someone else giving that speech at CES and she would have been flown back to begin packing up her office!
To that end, so would the entire marketing team responsible for getting the word out on this product and it's awesome capabilites while making HD DVD a household word!
There would be a trail to HR then out the door!

Lucky for them, this isn't my company!

To be fair, I do believe that the HD DVD group was more than convinced of either Warner's neutrality (as they assured everyone earlier last week) or that they would surely honor their commitment to go exclusive with the format that could actually sell 1 million stand alone HDM players by the end of 2007. (Thus the emphasis on 1 million HD DVD players sold in 2007, by Jodi)

If this is any indication of future business acumen, Toshiba definitely is the company that I want to do battle with, any and every day of the week! This has been the most politically correct and just plain clean (Toshiba's side ONLY!) Marketing battle, that I have seen in decades!
