Default M$'s CES press conference link

You can watch it live at: http://www.microsoft.com/ces/. It starts at 6:30pm PST. There has been so much speculation as to what will happen...

Pretty weak press conference. They briefly mentioned that a cable co in Britain will be using 360 as STB. No mention of HD-DVD at all. Looks like M$ is abandoning ship. Not a good sign. Anyone else watch it?

I just skimmed through the blog at engadget. Didn't seem too interesting. I was also hoping for some thing to get excited about. I'm not sure what, but something...you know the feeling?

I watched it. The only HD-DVD thing I saw was a picture of the 360 with the AO on screen for about 2 minutes.

maybe, maybe not with what happened last week I'm geussing all members of the HD DVD PG will be in various disscusions about the next move. No one was going to make any major anouncements unless Toshiba had something up its sleeve, looks sadly as if that was a no.

If I remember correctly, last year many HD DVD fans were extremely disappointed with CES. I recall many openly thought that Fox would be wooed over, or something like that. Many BD fans were despondent when Paramount/DreamWorks dumped BD support.

Warner did crap on Toshiba's parade, but expecting some saber rattling statement was not going to happen.

Probably lots of dealing will be done in the next few weeks with Toshiba either looking to cut its losses or fight on.

As the spokesperson said (yesterday?), "We've been declared dead before." 'Course, that might be a lot closer now then it has ever been!

Actually MS was very clear about their high definition future during this conference... downloads.

Microsoft acquired (from Sony) the entire MGM library for download via XBox Live. There will be high-def versions of Rocky, Terminator, and Legally Blonde debuting soon. They also acquired the rights to numerous ABC (Disney owned) shows including Lost, Desperate Housewives, and Grey's Anatomy.

So M$ spends money to lock up a deal with Disney and MGM but won't do that for HD DVD. Like I always said, they don't care about HDM they want downloads.

Hmm. So, there's a bunch of BD titles I can just download and watch rather than buy!

I'm kind of curious why Disney and Sony would sell these like that? Sure, for $, but might doing so hurt BD sales, unless they don't really plan to release those on BD any time soon?
