Generally, I agree. But Fox and Warner are the ones who are undiplomatic here. You think the relationship isn't already shot? They STOOD UP the HDPG for the biggest electronics show of the year. They didn't just decline. They didn't back out in advance. They STOOD THEM UP. Toshiba speaking the truth of the matter is no more or less undiplomatic than the knife they have stuck in their back right now.

They're not the backstabbers... they're the backstabees.

MS was part of the HD DVD press event. And I'm sure planned to talk about it more at their own press event. Warner and Fox didn't just politely decline to be involved... they made an agreement with the HDPG... Uni, Para, Tosh, MS... and then hosed them at the worst possible moment.

You can piss off your barber. You can piss off your grocer. You can even piss off your boss if you're feeling brave. But you really shouldn't piss off MS.

Will Toshiba Continue to Market HD DVD?

They hardly did in the first place!

Fox & Warner are studios and what's done is done. Since Toshiba will probably let HD DVD die now anyway they will want to join the BDA and make money selling players. At the very least they have an opportunity to sell several million dual format players to those of us who supported HD DVD and will now have to move over to blu-ray if we want HDM movies. On top of that they manufacture IC's for Sony so they already have a vested intetrest in blu-ray indirectly. It's business and they will get over this very quickly.

I'd rather see Toshiba put their efforts behind the development of a new format like HVD or something. I have a hard time moving to a format that is not clearly superior to HD DVD (a little more bandwidth and a few more gigs don't cut it...sorry).

BD has far from sealed mass adoption. I spent $699 on my XA2, which will now only play a limited supply of movies. I'm not about to make the same mistake twice.

Oh OK I see where you are going. IMHO M$ is more like an LLP (limited liability partner) to HDPG. They had a vested interest but were not totally behind HD-DVD or else they would have dropped serious $$ on WB and there probably would have been an HD-DVD 360 by now.
