What is HD?

I have been reading this boards for months now and just decided to register. I just wanted to provide a different perspective on things.
With the recent Warner Brothers announcement, Warner Brothers have said that they will continue to produce films in both formats, hd-dvd and blu ray until May 2008 and from that point onward produce films in high-def only on blu-ray from June up until. I assume that the only reason why they are waiting until May is soley because of legal reasons, that's the only legit reason I can think of . However, I have been reading lots and lots of comments from people basically stating that WB will be at least releasing high def films on hd-dvd for the next 5 months, so no worries until then. And I was just thinking, what big films from WB will be released on DVD from now until May. Really, I cant think of any. Beowulf maybe, but personally I'm not in to movies like that and judging by the box-office, I wasnt the only one. But I cant think of any big releases from WB in the coming months, on blu ray or on hd-dvd. Twister is coming on blu-ray on the last week of May, but I wonder are they obligated to release that on hd-dvd as well, past films I mean. And even if they are they can easily delay it a week to release it in June. I mean you have smaller films like the Bucket List but I doubt that people will be running to the stores to purchase that on Blu-Ray. The only film I can think of that's huge from WB that probably will be released in this time frame is perhaps, I am Legend. But judging from past releases, it's going to take around 4 to 4 1/2 months for it to come out on dvd. So late April to early May is a reasonable dvd release date for I am Legend. But could WB just as easily delay it until June 3rd, the first Tuesday in June, to keep it Blu-Ray exclusive. That's a strong possibility I think. But I guess what Im saying is that does it matter that WB will still be supporting both formats until May. Is there any movies worth buying on high def from WB until May. On the contrary, the real blockbusters Speed Racer, perhaps Get Smart, and the biggest movie of the year and my personal favorite, The Dark Knight, obviously wont be coming out until the fall. What do you guys think? |

I doubt too many. Jan-Apr is usually a pretty slow season for disc releases. I imagine there will be some catalog releases, but beyond that not much besides what they have already announced.

I think whatever's been announced thus far, we're going to see a strong possibility of it being on HD-DVD.
It's probably going to be only those that they've announced, and nothing else.

I am Legend, for sure. That's about it unless they decide to have a big Irish wake of releases for HD DVD.
