I don't have significantly higher regard for Marantz products. The Marantz name was purchased and they have nothing to do with the historical Marantz Company, having first been bought out by Superscope, then Philips and now are part of a holding company that also includes Denon. Toshiba, Marantz and Denon all sell products built in China.
Yes but Marantz continues to be badged on gear with much higher part quality, and the newest A/V chips. Toshiba only did this on the XA2. There is no 3rd gen version. The A35 is an A3 with a few features.

Do you expect Toshiba to produce and market a 4th gen series?

Toshiba handed the high-end over to Onkyo as Toshiba has no desire to be a high-end, low-volume producer.

I'm sure there are already G4 HD DVD players in the works (not high end, though, but bringing high-end features down to the low end). Whether Toshiba will ever introduce them remains to be seen.

Actually Yes! However, to allow for a CE market space, Toshiba opened up the high end of the market for the other CE mfgs. That does not mean that the mid to low end of their HD DVD product line is junk either!

I imagine the XA2 will go down as a collectors item.

I was hoping to find a NIB model cheap after the price cut, but no one seems to be selling them at a big discount.

The Marantz is not on the market today, nor is 2.0! When they both get here and can be adequately compared to the then current top of the line HD DVD players, then I may concede to your opinion. Until then, Toshiba is the king CE of this market! IMHO.

And thanks!

I would expect them to come down in price too soon!
