Wonder what effect this will have...

HD DVD prices
short term surge in HD DVD sales if prices plummet
how long it will take for prices to drop
Microsoft stock
Sony stock
PS3 sales
...and of course the format war.

Can't wait for time to tell the story...

Although I sold my HD DVD player, I still have like 9 HD DVDs. I wonder if I should buy a player if they go dirt cheap.

Sorry about this bad news to all the DUD-ers in the crowd...

At least you got the potters and matrix before you got dumped. (Maybe you'll even get LOTR,.. who knows?)

LOL. I started HD DVD, then to neutral, then to Blu exclusive. I still have some HD DVDs though. I guess I'll give them away and buy them again since they are all WB movies anyhow.

With such a sucky volatile market it's good to get some good news today.

This is not a rumor. I has been all over CNBC too, where I first saw it.

Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HD-DVD stands no chance of surviving 2008. Paramount and Universal alone do not have enough software to support HD-DVD alone. This is a much bigger blow to HD-DVD then loosing Paramount was for Blu-Ray. Warner is nearly twice the size of Paramount and released over twice as many movies in high definition. Paramount will be back to Blu-Ray now. This war is over soon.

Why are you happy? Shouldn't you be screaming merry hell about pay offs as happened with Paramount when they removed movie purchasing privalages from the owners of one of the HD formats?

I predict many hypocritical posts from BD fans now gloating about this.

This is great news for HD, though questions will certainly be asked if now Blu-ray still fails to take off in any significant manner.

The news has made it over to hddvd.org

I hope HD disc can now catch on in time. Sorry HD DVD, but a win for everyone else.

I personally do believe that the war did help to bring prices down...

How long will WB continue to make/distribute for HD DVD?

Guys,
I'm sure Warner studied this at length to make the decision.
The future is blu.!

I haven't seen any evidence of payoffs. Especially not ones numbering 150 million. At least Warner will be still releasing the HD-DVDs they announced and not cancelling announced Blu-Ray titles like Paramount did.

You're 100% correct and anybody that disagrees with this is in denial or living under a rock. I prefer HD DVD(or have preferred) but this announcement is HUGE for BD. Sorry to say it could potentially lead to being the final nail in the coffin.
