Go with the PS3. Looks are equal, but the PS3 is the only player that has zero issues with any disc.

The same cannot be said for any other player.

It really depends on your preferences; If you have to have a absolutely dead silent player, you need to get the player, not the ps3. Also note that you probably want to buy a remote for the ps3 (unless you use the sixaxis controller, which is clumsy to say the least), and it does not support ir, but uses bluetooth (the sony one works great, but you cannot use a universal remote then to control ps3). (there are workarounds but they won't allow eject and power functions among other things)

If you can live with this, the ps3 is by far the safest bet. It will get a profile 1.1 update shortly, most likely profile 2.0 once the first 2.0 titles come out as well. (internet connectivity when playing a BD). It also is among the absolute best upconverting dvd players out there. As a bonus it plays games, can be used for surfing, playing music, show slideshows etc.

To be covered completely, you may want to save up money for a hddvd player as well, to get titles like Transformers, Bourne trilogy and Shrek3 (Paramount, Dreamworks and Universal are exclusive to hddvd)
