Funny,,,the PS3 did not need emulation software to marry the add on to it's player. He He,,,as for emulation software, this smacks of another MS theft. Correct me if me be wrong - but was'nt it a small company called Hercules that first developed the emulation software to couple graphics into an OSD, back in the late '70's?

Sorry, I don't think you're getting what this actually is. It's an X360 emulator used for testing. That means no discs need to be created before testing. It's certainly not required, at all, in any form, whatsoever.

It does however greatly enhance the ability of the creator to test out the disc on what would be a REAL player, without the need to create/burn/whatever any test discs. This speeds up the development process massively.

I don't see anything wrong with it. As a computer engineer myself, we work with emulators every day. They're one of the most useful tools available.

As CapBBeard said, it appears you don't get it. This works for HD DVDs like the PowerISO tool for PCs that lets you mount an CD image ISO file with a drive letter and run things as though a real CD were really inserted into a real CD drive. It lets you design and tweek the CD image just right before burning any discs.

As was already stated Oblioman, this is an emulator to ensure HD DVD movies work with a virtual disc so that you do not have to continually run off ONE sample disc to assure it will play properly in a HD DVD player.

This is going to save a lot of time (both man hours & release delays), money (stopping a disc mfg line to setup & run off only one disc for testing), and help with troubleshooting encoding issues without actually having to stamp a disc. This is a very good thing to save development time/cost, production time/cost, and discs errors before they happen.

I think the name they used was what was confusing you.

Yup agreed. Oblioman if you read the second to last paragarah it say

Quote:
Xbox 360 HD DVD Player Emulator, we were able to cut the number of test discs needed per month from roughly 200 down to 50, saving more than 100 work hours per month. This positively impacted our business essentially overnight. We estimate we will recoup the low cost of the tool in less than one month's time."
So if you say that each HDDVD cost them $5 they went from spending $1000 a month to $250 and its 100 hours less work. The only down side i see to this is the people that needed the extra hours of over time in order to get there Christmas shopping done. Damn you MS.

It looks like CapBBeard took care of the explenation quite well. MS is very smart to release something like this, and I will be the first to say that FOX & Disney are looking into this 100% IMO, this is a massive money maker for studios

The reason is a "five posts, before you are allowed to post links" limit here. Check out the two "fantastic" threads he has created after post no. 5: "convert your dvd to ipod" blah blah (with links)...

It's - man and he has been reported.

Ohhh....I didn't notice those other posts/threads till now.

So, in light of this evidence, I'm forced to take back my earlier claim of "for no reason" and instead should insert "some stupid spammy reason".

Thanks Niko.
