I can completely agree that MANY people use their PS3's for movies. As PFC5 pointed out, we could estimate 20% of them are used frequently for this. But to think its sold what its sold today BECAUSE of blu-ray is completely ignorant. Without Blu-ray, it still would be very close to where it is in sales today.

Many who bought it with the intent of using it as a blu-ray player, would have bought it any way for the games. Blu-ray was the bonus.
The part in red, I almost spit soda outta my nose lol! The numbers are HORRIBLE for the ps3! If the ps3 didn't include that blurry player, it would have come out on time and cost the same as the xbox360! If anything the blurry player is KILLING the user base of the ps3!

The PS3 would be crap without the Blu Ray player. I don't know anyone who has bought one for gaming. Sony is far too focused on BD succeeding that it doesn't have the time to really focus on it's gaming like they should be.

It's all Blu Ray this and that... I forget the thing plays games and understand why many feel like tools for buying one expecting some serious gaming out of it.

*Que, but wait, MGS4 and (insert game here) are coming out*

Yawn, wake me when they get here but only when their attached to another price drop on the 80GB model since it'll certainly lessen the feeling of me being a tool and it can also play my old games too which the 40GB cannot. It isn't too much to ask, I mean Sony has already dropped the price twice now making it the quickest price reduction in the history of consoles within the last, what, 15 years atleast?

Do it Sony, allow me to take advantage of you, because I'm not part of your stereotypical userbase which will buy anything you release regardless of how much it blows at the moment because you slapped your logo onto it.

And to add to that, frankly it's going to take much more than just a couple of good titles!

The PS3 would have been priced low enough to compete without the Blu-ray player, and would have sold way more units, and wouldn't be making game developers bail from the platform, or wish they could. The PS3 might be kicking the 360's butt without the Blu-ray player.

Based on the quote - that total of 57,000 is from Friday the 17th to Friday the 24, which includes Black Friday. That seems very low with all the sales the A2 and A3 were having.

So this number does not include the rest of the weekend - Sat. and Sun

And on Monday the 29th - the total of HD DVD devices sold was 750,000.

OBTW - $200 to $400 is a 100% price difference. $200 to $300 would be a 50% price difference.
It is all in how it is worded as to which % is correct to use.

HD DVD is 50% cheaper (@$200.00) than a BD player (2$400.00) because $400.00 x 50% = $200.00. This was how the article worded it so it is correct.

Now if you word it as worded below, the 100% is correct (twice the money is a 100% increase):

BD players are 100% more (or twice as much) money than a HD DVD player. Because $200.00 x 2 = $400.00 which is twice as much, or 100% increase in price over HD DVD or 200% of the price of HD DVD.

Now you know why it can be very easy to fool people with numbers.

Which leads me to believe that this article was slanted towards BD. Damage control. They do not say if they have ALL the sales data from ALL retailers.
