I heard Sony is starting to produce Hairdryers with BD attached as well. Rep says:

"We are really excited to launch these BD Hairdryers and feel there is a huge customer base of people who like to dry their hair while enjoying the latest in Hi-definition technology. With the launch of this it will also spark other products that people will have no choice to own the BD attachment, but it's the only way we can truly clinch the format war."

Rep says the MSRP for the BD Hairdryer will be $279.99 and will be 2.0 spec upgradeable exclusively through WiFi SonyBluWire Wireless Optical 2.6 Flashywave broadband which is also expected to enter the market claiming to be even faster than standard broadband and have competitive rates as low as $80 a month, expected to launch 2008.

Sounds like it's gona be big. And finally a $279 Hairdryer! Don't know if I need the BD though...

indeed, the last thing we need is yet more posters with no desire other than to spout venom at people with differing viewpoints, I hoped we'd got past this last week, but obviously yet more people are upset that people generally get on here.

Not counting ps3 is kind of ridiculous, seeing it is likely the only current player you can buy that will be profile 2.0 compatible (at some point), do all sorts of other stuff, AND costs the same or less as all SAL's.

I'm not sure why everyone is shouting from the roof tops that the PS3 isn't included in this SAL article. This article is about SALs! That's all! It even includes a number for the PS3s sold for good measure. But... this... article... is... about... SALs.

So this week the DEG said that BD SAL's total less than 200,000

But now they are magically at over 400,000?

?

By the way - I apologize for my outburst on this thread yesterday - uncalled for

I just do not believe ANY of the numbers that these people are offerring at all.

HD sold 90K+ on 11/2

Then on 11/28 we are told they sold another 160K for a total of 250K

These people are short! I believe the BD SAL number (BF Sale #) - but not the HD SAL number.

The PS3 outsells HD DVD all of the time. That isn't worth mentioning here. The fact the PS3 is a better HD disc player that does much more than any HD DVD player isn't worth mentioning here. The fact the PS3 will pass 7,000,000 sold before all HD DVD players combined pass 1,000,000 sold isn't worth mentioning here. Until I owned a PS3 I didn't realize how much better it is than anything that HD DVD has to offer, it is no wonder it sells, despite being much higher priced.

I wont deny that the PS3 is an amazing machine.. but you cannot compare it to the HD DVD SALs sold. The PS3 is a GAME CONSOLE. That is the category it falls into. It is a game console that happens to have a BD player. Just like the PS2 was a game console that happened to have a DVD player. That is the reason it has sold so many more units.

As of 08/01/2007, according to this link, the xbox 360 has sold 10.4 million units. What if the 360 happened to have a built in HD DVD player. What would you say then??

And of course the fact that hardly any PS3 owners know anything about Blu-Ray or buy discs, doesn't need mentioning either.

Where are you getting the "HD SALs sold another 160k on 11/28" part?

From what I understand, there were an estimated 320k HD SALs before the Wal-mart $99 sale. Then the WM sale weekend sold 90k, putting the estimated number to 410k. Then this article says on BF they sold about 35k, puttting the total to at least 445k. Then if you add in about 10k per week between the Wal-mart sale and BF, you get about 30k more, or 475k total. This is in the ballpark range of the HD group saying there are 750k total SALs + add-ons out there.

But this article has a very weird picture of the BD SAL total. It says that by year end, there will be 461k BD SALs... but at the end of September, Microsoft said the add-on had sold 220k and that was more than all BD SALs combined. So, where did these extra 240k BD SALs come from?

Assuming BD SALs sold 10k per week for the rest of the year (and 20k during BF week), that would be just 130k more, bringing the BD SAL total to, at most, 350k by year-end.
