Default Fox Confirms Delay For 'Independence Day' Blu-ray

Quote:
Citing quality control issues, Fox has delayed the release of one of the biggest guns in its Q4 Blu-ray arsenal, 'Independence Day.'

The 1996 blockbuster had been due to hit high-def on December 4, but Fox has now confirmed earlier retailer reports that 'ID4' has been delayed.

We received the following statement from Steve Feldstein, Fox SVP of Corporate and Marketing Communications, with the exact reasoning behind the postponement:

"While putting Independence Day through our regular and rigorous QC process we detected a minor glitch. Even though 95 percent of users would likely not know or encounter it, we chose to do the right thing and remaster which necessitates moving the release date."

Though Fox has not yet announced a new street date for 'Independence Day,' the studio told us that it expects to reschedule the title for sometime in March 2008.

'ID4' is not the first next-gen title be yanked from Fox's Q4 slate. The studio has recently delayed several other previously announced titles, including 'Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World,' the original 1979 version of 'The Amityville Horror' and 'I, Robot' (also starring Will Smith).

This most recent delay leaves only two Fox catalog titles still set for Blu-ray release in 2007 -- the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie thriller 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' and the Tom Hanks drama 'Cast Away' (both due December 4).

As always, we'll let you know as soon as a new date is announced for 'Independence Day.'

In the meantime, we've moved 'Independence Day' to the "Release Dates Pending" section of our Blu-ray Release Schedule. Stay tuned.
Fox titles delayed again... hmmm

Sounds like a legit delay. . .

I'd be pissed if I were one of those 5%, and also it would be, yet another, bad media day when reports of the bug began appearing on newsblogs.

Do they mean the 95% of users who aren't trying to crack BD+

I think they meant it was an issue that would affect every disc but that only 5% would notice. Not affect 5% of the disc.

What I'm guessing is it was an authoring issue with BD. Could have come with framing issues in some scenes like pirates perhaps?

Are they having trouble with BD50 yields, or did the BD+ on this title fail to stop the Slysoft workaround?

This movie sucked anyway.

Fox is truely a bigger detriment to Blu-Ray then Paramount and Universal. Hell HD-DVD fanboys should be glad Fox isn't releasing on their format. I mean give me a fucking break after not releasing titles for 8 months they really really should have had problems like this all ironed out months ago.

The other BD studios aren't having this much difficulty are they?

I wonder why Fox always has so much trouble

It just about has to be the BD+ doesn't it? That's about the only thing that sets them apart.

Its obviously why. Fox is so ridiculously paranoid over copy protection that they constantly are screwing over innocent consumers. Hey Fox some people will always copy material its inevidible but if your products are good and consumer friendly more then enough people will buy them honestly to turn a signifigant profit.

I'm just wondering aloud here, but does it really take another 3 months to remaster the disc? If it will only effect 5% of viewers, how could it possibly take such a long time to fix it. I would think they would want to do everything they can to get the disc in distribution before the Christmas season is over.

If Fox is looking for the unbreakable copy protection, we'll never see another release from them ever again. At least they're spending all of their money on their useless pursuit while they cut off their revenue. Geniuses.

Its O.K. while FOX is delaying all their movies, HD DVD will just continue to flourish.
