Of course we all knew it and the only way to stop it is to not offer the Blu-ray version for sale. As long as Paramount offers a Blu-ray title for sale, it will outsell the HD DVD version. They can't flood the market with the titles at reduced prices, that just widens the gap. A smarter move would be to hold the inventory, stick to a high wholesale cost and wait to see what happens. This is good press for HD DVD but opens up the door for the questions with answers that don't look good for HD DVD.

I am sure the real reason is that they need the warehouse space for all the unsold HD DVD titles, that must be a massive quantity by now. I didn't bother to read how many others figured out the obvious, but I am sure I am not alone. Some conclusions are too simple to even bother stating.

Good Lord man that's ignorant.
As a man who honestly loves both formats, that's piss-poor deductive reasoning. Some conclusions are to simple to even bother stating I suppose.

What? Just look at the numbers sold, most HD DVD titles sell less than 5,000 and the quantity manufactured each time is a multiple of that.

BTW - the Insiders at AVS say this statement/notice is BS. No other site has anything about this - only HDF.

It was a rumor - nothing more.

I guess there's no more money in the kitty for any new studio purchases this year. Too bad, Warner can't be bought so cheaply, like Parawhore!
Once more since I haven't asked you. HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO MAKE AN A2! You don't. You can't just take a $300 msrp and subtract the sale $100 price and come up with a $200 loss. It dosen't work that way. You don't know what it cost to produce it. I'm willing to bet it costs them$50 to make them at this point. Second, TOSHIBA DIDN'T PUT THEM ON SALE OR LOSE ANY MONEY BECAUSE THE RETAILERS PUT THEM ON SALE. Do we have that cleared up finally? Sorry about the rant haven't had my coffee yet.

Hmmmm. Let's see if we can break down the cost.

Toshiba gets Chinese company to produce their crap.
Chinese company gets thousands of prisoners from Chinese labor camps. Locks them in room, throws big bowl of rice in room for them to eat. Keeps them locked in for 18 hours. Labor costs: probably less than $2 (the cost of the bowl of rice and electric to boil the water for the rice).

Cheap plastic parts for player: Use the same as above, but at a plastics factory owned by some Chinese company who does the same.

Box to pack the crap in: Use the same as above, but at a box company in China doing the same.

Print literature: See above

Transport to USA: Probably their biggest expense, since they won't let the prisoners fly airplanes or leave the country.

Meant to be a joke, but sadly, probably not far from the truth.

From seeing the insides of the A2 and the A3, probably cost to produce is around $8.

Didn't get owned at all. You fully know that Lee has links to everything and everyone. Part of the "dazzle them with bullshit" Toshiba taught him in the FUD Spreading Training Course offered. He has mastered that very well, and from what I hear, is even teaching that course.

Yep. Just about everything is made in China now. I do try to avoid buying cheap Chinese crap, but most times you can't. Even food items. You would think in this damn country, somewhere, someone could grow some fuckin' wheat and corn and we wouldn't have to rely on Chinese wheat. Makes no sense.

PS3. Don't care where it's made. In all probability, I'd never consider one for myself.

NAFTA was supposed to prevent the Chinese from taking over manufacturing. Unfortunately it didn't work due to the work ethics of the Mexicans.

And when NAFTA failed - the Chinese stepped in because their work ethics were the opposite of Mexico.

Here in the USA we still have certain areas of manufacturing (called Light Manufacturing) that will not go to China because the way the Chinese do business. We still manufacturer:

1. Military
2. Avation
3. High Grade Medical

What the Chinese do is called "back door" manufacturing. You order 2 million widgets. But the Chinese make 5 million widgets. You get your 2 million - they sell the other 3 million out the back door to Chinese consumers - no R & D money - no license fees or royalties. And there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

I spent 2 years dealing with manufacturing companies.

Not to get too off topic and derail our bitch fest and cat fight, but seems to me that somewhere in this country, with people here being unemployed, that these "widgets" could be manufactured here and we could rely less on China and their bullshit. Anyone still buying toys made in China should be really concerned. And I saw a report where the majority of medicine and ingredients to manufacture medicines originate in China, where there are no inspections and regulations. US manufacturers are allowed to "inspect" these locations, but only after a time is "scheduled" for inspection by the Chinese authorities. Wonder what else is put in our medicines that we don't know about?

Now back to our bitch fest and cat fight.

We can't compete with their cost of labor. I was working with ADEMCO - they design and sell the in home security stuff - keypads and such. They got 5 bids. The Chinese were 300% below the lowest USA based bid. How do you compete with that?

Can we really stop this? Nothing is gained. It just pollutes the board. Discussion of topics enlightens us. Fighting accomplishes nothing at all.

I think the food has to do with government subsidies.
