Does the BD-HP20 have the latest profile? That's a decent price (for once) for a BD player.

I believe it is 1.0 profile. Circuit City also has a deal on the player, and with them you can pick it up local and not wait for it to ship. The only latest profile BD player right now is the Panasonic 30.

Spend $2k or more on a tv and get all cheap on your other gear?

But again, you knew this already Lee. As well as the $399 players at BB with the $100 gift card and free movies.
So what price is OK to spend on a player if you own a $2K HDTV? What if your HDTV costs $4K? What if it's only was $1K? I have no idea how you shop but I set a price then find what I believe is the best product for the range I'm lookin in. Sometimes I find I have to spend more than I wanted to other times I'm happy because I don't have to spend as much.

But it sounds like to me that you're all about trying to impress people. I bet you make it a point to tell people how much you spent on your HDTV. If not then why would it matter how much you paid for a HDM player?

Second. As you pointed out about the "Semi Blu boycott" of Paramount, why would they waste money storing/warehousing these discs if this is true? I think this is also a statement Paramount is making about how sure of their decision they are now with *near* mass consumer prices for HD DVD players.

Tell me. Are YOU one of those BD owners who are boycotting the Paramount BD movies?
Nope, I am buying the Paramount titles that I want. I have 16 or the 32 that are available on Blu. Why would any company with an asset destroy that asset, instead of collecting the money that they had invested in them? Hence, the current $19.99 sale of HD DVD and Blu Ray titles. Too bad that not all of their titles were on sale, but so be it. I wouldn't mind buying Black Snake Moan, but it is currently $34.99, a ripoff. Shooter is also selling for that price. I already purchased that title, when it was released the same day as 300. Many Blu supports, have boycotted Paramount because they see them as the whore that they really are. I see it as a smart business move, because they will eventually be free from Microsoft and will republish the Blu titles that they previously had released.

Microsoft didn't force them into anything. They may have offerd them a large amount of money, but thats buisness. You told me yourself that format wars are won by the company that performs the best.

At least my player still plays BD movies. Your Onkyo is already finished as a viable HD DVD player, since they're not going to produce any more. Samsung will have many more generation of players for Blu Ray, while Onkyo will probably go Blu! I guess the writing was on the wall for them, when Toshiba undercut their ability to compete in the market. Will HD DVD ever win another week in software sales? I doubt it!

You are correct. It was a good deal for them. They will make more money taking the 150 million dollars, than they could ever had made in the HDM market. The only problem is this, what happens when Blu keeps winning the software wars, every week, month in, month out? It has been a year since HD DVD has won a month and it only continues on. It's too bad, that you probably selected the wrong format. Instead of getting mad at the Blu Ray supporters, you should get mad at the people who lead you down the path of the wrong format to buy. The HD DVD zealots would like people like you to believe that all is OK, but the truth be known, the HD DVD format is a sinking ship, losing ground every week. This week, another software loss, Onkyo, one of the few other Hardware makers to support the format is now discontinuing their support and are probably going Blu. If you truly believe that HD DVD is looking after your interest, then ask them and ask yourself, where is the Buy One Get One Sales for HD DVD's, that Blu Ray often runs? How come the Combo format disks are still $34.99, while the same Blu titles are $29.99? Sure, cheap players, but more expensive software. Who is looking after you, after you bought their player? Not Toshiba or Paramount or Universal!

Wink

Apparently, the Nielson Numbers for Last week are already out. Even with the $98.00 A2's and A3's, Blu Ray has apparently won the week 72.6 to 27.4. Just missed the 3 - 1 sales ratio for the week ending November 24th.

No one here is believing those numbers anymore. If you look on Amazon HD DVDs are out selling Blu Ray disks. How can Nielson actually get numbers from every retailer in the country for a weeks sales?

The latest profile? You mean 1.0? That's the latest profile and all our BD players have got it!

Maybe you should ask some of your HD DVD demigods if they believe those numbers. Amazon is just one retailer who runs different sales. Nielson's is the recommended sales figure leader, since they don't sell Blu Ray or HD DVD's and only count the sales.

Care to post a link? I've never seen the Nielsen numbers in decimals before or ending on a Saturday.

Why not go over to HD DVD's home site, AVS and read it for yourself. If this is true, it must be devasting to the Amir fan club.

I think if you could see the number of units sold it wouldn't be very high. Last week was Die Hard and Hairspray up against Star Trek. This week looks real weak as well (for both sides).
