Good. It's about time that Paramount disassociates itself completely from Blu-ray. Maybe they should follow up with a store sweep in March or so to buy up any Blu-ray that are still up for sale.

BTW, doesn't this kinda blow a few holes in that 18 month contract theory? Destroying discs sounds permanent to me...

That's right! All of the Blu Ray disks will be in everyone's HDM library, once HD DVD is dead!

You ladies must be really bored tonight. Funny thing is, with all those wonderful movies in the vast HD DUD library, why aren't you all watching them instead of ??

Thats true.. you would think they would at least hang on to the discs if they had plans of going neutral again after the contract was up. That is a lot of money to throw away if they planned on selling those discs again at some point.

Maybe there was something in the contract that stated they would not release anymore of the current releases while the contract was in effect... So that way, when the contract is up, if they do go neutral again, BD would only get movies from that point forward and no previous releases?

Sounds like paranoia on the Toshiba/Microsoft/Paramount axis. Why worry about pressed disks, if you were afraid that they may find their way into the market? That's a lot of copies of Blades Of Glory!

Originally Paramount said they would keep shipping Blu-Rays until the warehouses were empty of titles, apparently they couldn't keep waiting to get rid of the discs and decided to trash them instead.

Pretty pathetic. They take the bribe and can't get rid of their old stock, because of a Blu semi-boycott. Is this the reason that Paramount is having a $19.99 sale on both formats to clear out old stock? Blu and HD DVD? By getting rid of much of their current Blu stock, they can replenish before having to destroy what their masters at Microsoft and Toshiba have ordered them to. Also funny that they would request this, considering that they said it wasn't a bribe and it was all about attach rates. Why would they destroy an asset, if this were indeed true? Just more Paramount hypocracy!

Guess with all that Transformer money they're rolling in right now they didn't feel the need to let them collect any more dust.

Too bad they couldn't have received another 200% more profit from the HDM market, if they had stayed neutral, huh? Dictators dictate, and surfs do as their told. Paramount is now finding that they now have to pay the price to the devil that bought their soul. That antichrist called Microsoft! 15 more months of servatude!

How much profit would they actually turn in keeping with BD anyway? I'd suggest very little.

In any case, the number of discs sold in comparison with SD DVD is but a tiny fraction. Given the small number of discs sold, is the cost of producing these HD titles actually recovered?

The profit margin on BDs is (I'm quite sure) less than stellar, just ask Disney

I'm not the most knowledgeable in this area though, so anyone that knows better feel free to correct me

200% more profit? Lets see 150 million in one hand and profits from 200k BD disc sales, though choice.

You took Sony's bribe and purchased many BD movies. At least you will still be able to use your player after BD dies in a year
