Can we really stop this? Nothing is gained. It just pollutes the board. Discussion of topics enlightens us. Fighting accomplishes nothing at all.
But I need something to sharpen my claws with.

As to the Chinese and their underbidding, there should be laws requiring at least an 70% USA built and manufactured content on products sold in this country. And countries that have rather dubious human rights laws should not be allowed to trade with us. I know it will never happen, but one can dream.

Really - lets put an end to it. I am sure you have a lot of knowledge and experience that you could share with us. Discussion makes for food for thought.

Please consider this option.

We do not have Nationalism laws like Germany and France do. And we suffer from it.

Q2 2008 should see the release of 2.0 BD players. If you are interested in a complete BD player - you can wait until a full profile player arrives.

Will have to continue this conversation later. I have a conference to attend and a flight to catch to Baltimore. Doing this in one day. Normally I stay overnight, but since Baltimore is the one city I wouldn't want to stay in any longer than I have to, I'll be out of there tonight. No offense to any Baltimorions, but damn. Better you than me.

IMO - the IF/WE will be the savior of HDM. The public will want it if the studios use it properly. They have every incentive in the world to do so because it will be another source of revenue for them. One they desperately need.

The public has never cared about better PQ and AQ. But they love shopping and they love the internet.

Black Friday was not good for B&M retailers as compared to last year. But Cyber Monday was good for E-Tailers. Their sales were much higher than last year. People are trying to save on gas - and sitting in your own home makes shopping a pleasure as opposed to driving from store to store.

Then you HD DVD'rs can buy one and join the victory party. Then all will be forgiven. Something like General LEE's surrender at Appomattox and the Confederate States rejoining the Union. The Troop ratio was about the same too, 72.6 for the Blu Side and 27.4 for the Grey side. I guess now is the time for the HD DVD surrender. OK, General LEE, it's time to sign on the bottom line, and buy that new 2.0 profile Blu Ray player.

Well, I just went over, kicked some DUD ass, because I was bored. It's like fishing with dynamite. Throw in some bait and watch the suckers bite. They are so predictable and so blinded by their chosen Messiah's that it's almost too easy. Desperation is everywhere and the fud is piled high. Most of the AVS red refugees are over there doing their usual clothes washing, with the spin cycle on high. Now for some comfort time in our Blu lair

I guess there's no more money in the kitty for any new studio purchases this year. Too bad, Warner can't be bought so cheaply, like Parawhore!
That's why most consumers have 720p displays, because 1080i is obsolete. Duh!
Get real. 1080p is only 'a standard' along with all the other levels of resolution.
Unless you are rooting for the consumers who use 1080p but do not know the difference. It is a fact some of the best displays are 720p and sometimes work better with SD material. as well as 1080i.
And most people watch a mixed bag of rez on their displays. Like SD broadcasts and the plethora of DVDs.
1080p is great, but really wasted on displays less than 50" unless you sit up real close.
Now if you are ONLY talking about watching 1080p sources, you are correct. But you just lost the majority of consumers. I guess BD can count on the ones left over!
I can understand the elitism that prevails, and if the BD proponents want to appeal to only those, go for it! And keep all the uninformed consumers who buy more than they need also. Nice market share!
(and sadly the latter part is bigger than it should be).
Let HD DVD and the associated mfgs. keep providing a full range of products to satisfy a full range of consumers.
All your comments about Parawhore and Toshiba selling cheap are obviously emotional with little substance. And have no bearing in a rational discussion. But I understand they provide a venting opportunity, so go for it! It has great entertainment value anyway!

I guess Paramount and Universal can't afford to keep up with the competition, and give the HD DUD fifedom a break in their software!
How come the PS3 outputting 1080p doesn't look any better than outputting 1080i on my 1080p display? How come it still doesn't look any better than my A1 or A2 outputting 1080i on the same display?

It is because 1080p is a BS red herring that has already been debunked many many times by the experts, and YOU know it.

Now let's talk about something that IS a REAL issue like BD profiles. Care to talk about a REAL issue like that?

What's funny is that the BDAis counting on PS3 sales to carry Blu-Ray but the NDP group found only 50% of PS3 users know it outputs in HD. So for all the talk about 1080p vs 1080i it seams that almost half of the BR owners doen't even care about anything above 480.
