OK, we will announce that we are considering changing our position on being neutral and will publicly state that we are basing it on HD DVD player sales that we KNOW will sell at under $200.00.

I think it was all arranged ahead of time myself and has been planned since the Spring.
I as well believe it was all arranged well ahead of time, and Paramount's decision was partly based on Toshiba's future pricing plans. WB has always felt standalones are the important sale right now, and actually I think Disney and Fox are scared sh!tless.

Here is another link about Blockbusters woes and this person thinks they will be out of business in 2 years:

I'm always distressed to see a company fail. However, I marvel at the fact that the local Blockbuster store still charges up to $5 for a rental that I can get from Netflix for $1 without leaving the house except to go to the mail box. I tried the Blockbuster on-line but the turnaround time was about 5 or 6 days. I quit it before the test period was over. I go to the BB store occasionally to buy used DVD's on closeout but I haven't had an account there since the mid 1990's. Honestly, I don't see any reason to do business with them.

I hate to see people lose their jobs.
But I dislike BB for the following reasons.

-My local BB doesn't stock and HD (HD-DVD or Blu-ray)

-The one closest to my job, closed. So I have to drive out of my way to rent a movie.

-Entirely to expensive. I had the movie pass (2 out at a time, unlimited) and it was $24.99 versus Netflix @ $13.99

I agree. I have not been in my local Blockbuster store in over a year or so. My wife has a couple of times but that is it. Why bother when I can rent HD DVD/BD movies for under $1.00 with Netflix. BBonline is so screwed up I couldn't buy a gift membership for a friend unless I also joined up and became a member of the online service. How screwed up and consumer/sales unfreindly is that?

My son had gotten a Blockbuster gift card as a present and we went there to pick something out.

We searched for around 15 minutes and found nothing we wanted to rent. They had a huge quantity, but it was all new stuff that we had already seen recently or didn't care about and their selection of older or more obscure movies was awful.

We ran out of time and left without finding anything. Eventually the card expired before we used it, as the Blockbuster is about 15 minutes further away than our local mom&pop store that usually has whatever we're looking for (although some of the older stuff is on VHS)!
