It wouldn't surprise me to see profile 1 players fall in price but then the new profile 1.1 players which won't be out until 2008 will render these old ones worthless so it's hardly surprising the prices are coming down. It's a last ditch effort to con people into buying a player with none of the HD DVD standard features which BDA have since decided matter. I hope they are forced to tell joe public how limited these older players are otherwise I think stores will have some very angry customers on their premises come new year!

Only in your dreams. Their is no way Blu-Ray stand alone players are going down in price especially the profile 1.1 versions. Companies are in for the profit, not to give them away for free.

If Sony had 1/2 a brain back then, they would have released a 720p/1080i BD stand alone player for a competitive price vs. the HD-A1 & HD-A2, but they are 1080p mandatory even though 90%+ of people with Hi Def TV’s can only support 720p/1080i

Why else it Toshiba's HD-A2 the best selling Hi Def player in all of North America for almost a year now.

Maybe they'll be doing a fire sale on the old profile 1.0 players like they did with the older BD movies this week.

This is the trouble with Sony and always has been. Instead of basing their technology on the real world they try and force change upon the public that they just don't want. Will Sony ever learn?
