Arrow Resident Evil: Extinction - Sony's First DS PIP Title

The news that Resident Evil: Extinction will be a Final Standard Profile title with a second stream Picture in Picture commentary feature has been confirmed by a Sony Pictures insider on the blu-ray.com forum, indicating that this will be the first such title from Sony Pictures on Blu-ray Disc.

With the FSP deadline at the end of October getting closer, it is comforting to know that the new features are coming - though not likely this year.

Will the PS3 eventually be able to play this?

I don't believe that there has been a PS3 update for profile 1.1 yet, but, I am not sure what this whole post really means. The Final Standard Profile? Meaning the 1.0, existing profile?

Didn't I just make this exact same thread last week?

Oh wait, it's confirmed by an "insider" at "Blu-ray.com", bloo boy fanboy central. We're taking them seriously now?

Glow, like the features or not, me thinks that this is bad news for BD. Me was hoping that they would not fall into the "extras" and profile junk. Me was hoping that BD would stand alone and go with more bit space allocated towards the pic & audio quality.

To my weery eyes, it doesn't look like any extra bandwidth is really needed above what you get on HD DVD. I think I'd rather have substancial (i.e. add to the film, interesting and relevant) extra features like these.

chagopian, I don't see any reason why the PS3 would not be able to do this, it has more processing grunt than the 360 and that managed PiP no problem with the 360 HD DVD Add On. In all honesty atm the only Blu ray players I think are even worth considering are the PS3 or the Samsung and LGs second gen dual format players.

Someone at AVS said that LG told him they will NOT be providing an update to handle BD+ on their 1G DF player that is less than 1 year old. That means no Fox titles if you own an LG player. I would be so angry if I owned one. Samsung has shown to be the slowest to provide firmware updates so that is not the greatest choice either IMO.

So for BD players we now need to get certification IN WRITING that they will provide TIMELY (5-7 days) firmware updates for x years before we buy a player also, since they are updating decryption keys and everything else on BD.

Can you imagine J6P putting up with all this?

I think they are a waste of time, too. You would've thought that we would've learned from last generation DVD's that extras are a joke. Oh well. They do increase the market value for some, so I guess thats a good thing (for them, not necessarily for us...).

BTW Oblioman- is Andersonville anywhere near Nashville? I'm going down there with some friends next month and was hoping to
figure out some good drinking spots beforehand. Know of any good places?

I bet if ANYONE knows where those drinking spots are, it will be Oblioman.

I have a Samsung upscaling DVD recorder which has an acknowledged bug in the HDMI code, causing periodic audio drop-outs. They said there would be a fix for it. A year-and-a-half ago. It's been out of production for about a year. I'm not holding my breath.

Samsung ought to either fix their bugs or not acknowledge them--they could get themselves into some class-action trouble if they're not careful.

First take a breath.....quickly

How long did it take to create a firmware fix to flip a noise filtering switch in the 1G unit? I seem to remember it was at least 2-3 months.
