True but Warner charges $4 less for the Blu-Ray then the combo HD-DVD. Had the HD-DVD been combo free the two formats would have been the same price. More importantly then the price is my hatred of flippers. I like my discs with art on the top so you can easily see which side is correct. Flippers lack of disc art and difficult distiction between which side is correct are unbelievably frustrating especially when its for a standard definition version I don't want.

Apparently you have never looked at one of these combo discs. They are color coded with a red band on the inside around the whole in the center. It says this side up for the HD DVD side to play. The other side has no band on it.

So as long as you know the red band goes face up, you are all set.

How often do you look at the artwork on the disc? Give me a break. It is either in the case or the player so you don't see it. If you leave your discs lying around to look at the artwork remind me never to buy a used movie from you.

They only REAL problem people have with the combo discs is the price. Hopefully the studios will wake up and correct this.

No, I see his point of view, I prefer disc art to just plain silver, however I do think there is far more of a mountain being made out of it than necessary.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Definition of insanity
All previous versions of Hyundais were junk. It's ridculous to assume the new ones will be any good when all previous versions have been failures. Oh, and by the way, they aren't doing the SAME thing. These are going to be TL twins. NOT the same as current combos.

So take a sharpie marker, and scribble all over the wrong side. That'll make it painfully easy.

Default dont want to buy into new format player until theres winner but will buy combos

i dont have hd dvd or blu ray player at the moment but i have ordered a couple of hd dvd combo discs
i live in uk and i wont buy into blu ray because its a rip off with all this unnecessary region coding/ drm/ rip off low quality at the moment which in my opinion will only fuel piracy in this country anyway.
i wont buy into hd dvd at the moment in case the greedy fatcats get their way and blu ray becomes a winner in the format war.
i will however buy the american hd dvd combo discs because the hd dvd side isnt region coded so i can get the hd version of the movie along with the dvd side which will work with my multi region dvd player. i have bought many region 1 dvds in the past and these combo discs are only about £1 more (about £18 each)which is great value to me all uk hd/ blu discs are a rip off at £25 each in this country. at least with the combo discs they are handy if hd dvd is the winner in the long run.
but who is to say that yet another format wont be out within the next 18 months or so and that both current formats wont be obsolete?
until we know for sure im not spending my money on a player

This bit here is the greatest hurdle for HD media. It's catch 22. People won't buy into it unless it is established, but it won't become established until people buy into it.

Who's to say that in 18 months there won't be a better choice than *anything* you just bought--house, car, dishwasher, PC, leather jacket...

This is particularly true in Hi-Tech arenas where every 8 months-to-a-year products improve significantly (either you can get the same thing for a lot less money, or get something better for the same money).

At the current (and expected) price of HD DVD players, it's hardly a big investment. Worst case, as long as your player hangs in there, you will always be able to watch the movies you bought, even if the format disappears. I could see someone being concerned about investing in a large iibrary of discs if the format fails, but again, you'll be able to play those discs on your player regardless of what happens to the format.

Where I would find the MOST value in the combo disk is with the animated movies or movies my daughter would like. Why? Because we have 1 HD DVD player and about 5 SD DVD players, including a portable one for car trips. Having the ability to not only see the DVD in pristine HD format, but ALSO plop it into various other DVD players, so to not "hog" the flatscreen HD TV, as well as plop it into the portable DVD player, so my daughter can be amused during a long car ride, would be well worth it.

The only issue I have, is the cost. There are movgies in combo format, that I could care less if they are a combo, but I have no choice but to buy them in combo format and pay extra for it.

Would you ever watch your daughter's movies, and/or does your daughter care if they're in HD? If not and not, why not just stick with standard DVD? They're cheaper.

Looks like the combo IS now the same price as Blu Ray for some of their future releases btw.

I love combos if there was artwork on the disc though!

In the new 300 packed inside the A3 there is a small phamplet showing titles available. And there is also a very good description of the Combo.
