Apparently Warner and MS are talking HD DVD exclusive

This is from Bill Hunt so take it with a grain of salt but if Warner did go HD DVD exclusive it wold only be a short period of time before MGM and others jumped over and BR would be the dead floating fish in the HD river.

I take anything he says with a grain of salt as he has no credibility due to his extreme fanboyism. However, when Blu-ray fanboys floats rumors positive to HD DVD (even though it's in a negative spin), then I'll sit up and listen...but only that.

MGM post 1986 is owned by Sony (and Comcast

) with Fox having some of the releasing rights so forget MGM. Pre 1986 is owned by Ted Turner.

Lionsgate would be next if WB went exclusive - or Lionsgate could fall first. They are having money problems right now - lost $53 million last quarter. Nothing a little suitcase from MS won't fix though

I agree and I would love to see this actually come to fruition. Disney currently may take a year to go neutral but if Warner jumps to HD DVD only Disney will be clamouriong to get on teh HD DVD bandwagon and quick just like the DIVx DVD thing with them and their eventual relase on DVD in 98 I still have their initial 9 offerings all labled as LIMITED EDITIONS.

Who knows. If LG is in financial trouble, they are likely to court whoever has the wallet open. I think Sony would offer them the money to stay. They cant take another black eye like this.

Or somehow Bill "Blu Boy" Hunt has got some sniff of a deal that may fall at CEDIA? That maybe WB will pull a "Paramount" and accept cash and incentives to go HD DVD exclusive?

So he is urging his readers to write to WB begging them to stay neutral (They were going to be HD DVD exclusive before the formats were ever released) All they have to do is resign their seat at the BDA.

WB owns the distribution rights to all pre-1986 MGM movies, except for the Bond movies.

Like I said, I seriously doubt WB would go exclusive to HD DVD, but if they did, man that would really change the complexion of the war. Only them going exclusive would give HD DVD a decent shot of actually winning...

Well I think it got a bit tougher for WB to leave BD:

Bluray is NOT Sony

They are a patent holder for BD. They are a patent holder for DVD also. They get $.015 per DVD. That is their royalty payment.

So chances of WB going exclusive now go to 95/5 in favor of staying neutral . . . . for the foreseable future.

They are the only other studio besides Sony who has a piece of BD. No idea what that piece is.

But Lee does Warner not also hold patents in HD DVD also? Also all teh R&D money spent for this and THD could be overcome by a very fat cheque from MS which could maybe let them forget about one format. It is all specualtion but who knows lets never say never.
