Default HD DVD "exclusives" on Blu Ray...

Seeing as theres a bit of a thread about exclusive Blu Ray movies that have made it to HD DVD in other countries. I thought it was only fair that there was a thread for HD DVD exclusives in the US that have made it out on Blu Ray in other parts of the world.

Unfortunately I have no way to test them so don't know if they're region free (guess thats the one part where HD DVD wins in this) but I've noticed an increasing number of HD DVD titles appearing on Blu Ray on UK release schedules.

Bruce Almighty
U-571
Lucky Number Slevin

are the 3 I know of to kick start the list. I'll add more and hopefully track down information on whether they're region free in the near future

Well if you insist.

Bruce Almighty - It's back in stock now Lee, yes it does exist
U-571 Released in 6 weeks.
Lucky Number Slevin - Out of stock atm, but sounds like their delivery of todays Blu Ray releases has come late.

All 3 titles are listed on www.amazon.co.uk and all 3 are region 2.

Are they definitely region locked then? So much for the "most Blu Ray discs aren't region locked" comments from members on here then.

Guess BD owners will just have to hope a multi region unlock code is found for BD players soon if they want to enjoy more movies.

If it says region 2, I would assume so. I would think it could only play on a region 2 player or (if they exist) a region free player?

You cannot run some region code to unlock a BD player because it would then be tripped up by BD+. Maybe that is why a couple of Universal titles are showing up in Europe on BD now and they are region coded.

It says the same for HD DVDs though, you can't go by Amazons listing, it just means they were manufactured for Region 2 territories, Amazon don't actually state if a disc is region free or not. Amazon.com lists all their HD DVDs as only working on Region 1 USA HD DVD players etc.

PFC, isn't BD+ on the disc itself? Therefore meaning if the title hasn't been burned as a BD+ title it won't be effected? We have no current idea if the discs are region locked or not, as I said the region declaration is just default on amazon much like PAL etc is.

BD+ is on the discs, but part of the disc load process is that once it sets up a virtual machine for the BD+ code it then checks out the BD player to see if it has been tampered with. If it has it could do any number of things with the least of which it would just not play, and the worst it could brick the player.

We just do not know what BD+ will end up doing until the BD+ encoded discs get released. I am not even sure if a BD+ disc HAS to do anything but not play depending how that disc in encoded.

My point was that if you try to run some kind of region free hack on a BD player the least is that no BD+ encoded discs will play and much worse could happen. I wouldn't advice ANYONE to mess with anything (modifying the player etc) on the BD players or else it might be an expensive lesson.
