That's right 300 has sold 163,00 out of the 250,000 sold on blu-ray. That leaves 97,000 respectfully sold on the hdd format. Not for nothing that's almost double sold on blu-ray!!!

What happened to all those stand alone players that are installed in people's homes for hdd. Doesn't really look like it made a difference matter of fact if anything it just shows how strong the blu-ray format is selling that is probably the biggest dual format release you are going to get for a long time and the blu-ray version still out sold it in it's first week by almost 70,000 and that's only the first week.

It also seems like when a hot title is released on both formats the HD DVD versions sell at it's best in the first week and slows down pretty quickly while the Blu ray version continues to sell.
Just something I noticed...correct me if I'm wrong!!

Actually, Blu Ray has seriously under performed on the title with your "stomping" figures matey. Blu Ray sales are 2:1 anyway, so that was what everybody expected. Nice of you to try and spin it though, shame it was already expected that HD DVD had, had a good run if it was only approx 2:1 what with Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead etc all being released on the same day too.

I really don't think hot fuzz and sean of the dead detracted anything from 300 considering in the US they didnt really do that well in theatres.

There were widespread reports of the Hot Fuzz run being sold out so it certainly sounds like it did at least fairly well and I know I picked it over 300, I didn't see it in the cinema but it was always a day 1 purchase on HD DVD. Does the cinema run actually tend to tie to home movie sales?
I know there are often a lot of movies that under perform in the cinema, but then word of mouth leads to them having much better home video sales. Hot Fuzz I think is definitely one of them, at least it will be in the UK. Shaun of the Dead bombed in the cinema, then stayed atop of the DVD charts for months. Could be way off the mark though ![]() Do think the topic title/OP is a bit trolling though seeing as all it does is reflect current YTD ratios. The difference is certainly a far cry from the 8:1 ratios Blu Ray fans on other forums were predicting. Last edited by MikeRox; 08-09-2007 at 03:34 AM. |

I'd still like to see how smaller releases compare cross format, sure 300 will sell plenty as will titles like casino royale these are the titles that will appeal not only to the hard core HD format buyer but also have a more universal appeal and will have PS3 owners who may not usually buy movies to pick up a copy. lets be honest the gap may be 60-70K but the number of people with blu-ray compatible players/ drives thats not all that impressive. Anyone have the figures for the SD version of the 300?

The movie 300 wins hands down on HD DVD. The exclusive HD DVD features alone in that movie speak for themselves. Warner is still selling 300, so the war is not over just yet with that movie.
I believe HD DVD will be the final victor in this long battle. Exclusive HD DVD supporter Universal Pictures/Studios is the largest movie studio in the world. The only way HD DVD goes down is if they decide for some reason not to support HD DVD anymore, and that will probably never happen anytime soon. This Christmas Holiday Season coming soon will most likely be the deciding factor for both HD DVD & Blu-Ray. IMO, after the Chrismas Holidays, some exclusive studio backers of Blu-Ray may want to dip into the HD DVD market providing HD DVD excels big time. It really is anybodys game at this point in time. |

So BD has 6X the install base in players . . . but can only muster a 2 to 1 lead in the software sales. Of which they started to do in Jan. of this year and it has not changed since.
And you BD supporters cheer about this? LOL |
