Just 1 small correction. Star Trek is Paramount.

Toshiba needs to start selling their HD DVD drives aggressibly before, during & after Christmas. They better try & get Wal-Mart to sell Hundred’s of Thousand’s of HD DVD's & Players, because which ever format Wal-Mart chooses later on spells disaster for the other.

Wal-Mart was responsible for at least 50% of all the worlds DVD sales from what I’ve read.

So if this is poor sales, what Hi Def disc has sold more in 1 week????

Yes, you are right. I got Universal confused with Paramount. Battlestar Galactica & other Sci-Fi are from Universal.

This may be a bit of a side track, but I used the new sony player at Wal mart today and was very disappointed. ( I was genuinely interested in this player) but it was super SLOW.... Being as how this is my first time useing a BR player I am not accustom to them. Is this a common problem with BR players or just this one?? It was slow starting up (loading... loading...) and it was slow just going through the menu and the scenes.

Is this a common thing, or possibly just a bad player?

P.S. I really dont care about the format war at this point. There are things from both camps that are getting me irritated- so this is not meant to add fuel to the fire... just asking a question.

I went to Wal-Mart & Best Buy today and noticed something interesting about the displays for HD DVD & Blu-Ray.

The HD DVD’s are of a metallic red colour where as the Blu-Ray is a baby blue colour.

Looking at both Wal-Mart & Best Buy HD displays the Blu-Ray is plastered all over the top of the display where people see the warm baby blue colour even from a distance. The HD DVD section is just bellow the Blu-Ray section where you actually have to physically bend over to see them. The HD DVD’s are also not very noticeable from a distance.

IMO, I would suspect that many people (illiterate with all this HD stuff) would probably favor the Blu-Ray instead of the HD DVD due to the warm baby blue colour. To them, its probably just looks like it would be better picture & sound quality.

I think stores should give both formats the respect they deserve & let people choose one. I believe Wal-Mart & Best Buy need to re-think the way they are advertising both HD formats.
I'm sorry, but I just don't see how this makes sense.

If someone goes into Wal-Mart or Best Buy to get 300, they are going to buy it on the format they own.

I hardly think people are going to go buy a player based on the color of the disc case.

This whole thread is getting ridiculous.

Blu-ray has a much larger install base of players. Blu-ray has been continuing to outsell HD DVD on many titles 2:1. We are simply seeing the same thing with 300.

All this tells us is that Blu-ray and HD DVD are both growing and they're growing at the same rate. Which in turn tells us, HD DVD is not dying, dead. Heck, it doesn't even have a cold.

It's not poor sales, it's a poor sales ratio vs HD DVD compared with what everyone was saying to expect etc.

So this one is the next best thing although it doesn't fully confirm it.
From memory Bill talked with Paramount and they told him a Blu version is in the works.

http://www.filmstalker.co.uk/archive...ollection.html

This could be the most, best, ultimate Star Trek collection to date, ever. According to stories from Comic-Con there's a new HD-DVD collection coming, and it might even be on Blu-Ray too, and this promises to be the biggest yet with not just films but also remastered TV series.

Paramount looks set to release the entire Star Trek Movie Collection in high-definition (HD-DVD and Blu-Ray) as well as the entire original series of Star Trek, and all four seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise. What a collection that will be for Trek fans.

Once again, just to make sure you got that news from Digital Bits through MovieWeb, they will all be in HD-DVD and quite possible Blu-Ray too, after all they'd be fools to miss out on the PS3 base.

This is quite stunning to be honest, I can hardly believe that this is all going to be in one set, surely it will have to be split, and will you fork out for these if you're a fan? Of course, I'm not that big a fan and I would...particularly the Enterprise series, if not just to send a message to the producers and schedulers who brought about the demise.

Maybe I did not explain the situation. If you are new at the HD world and you are looking for a HD solution, then proper presentation may be the limiting factor in that person’s decision.

If Wal-Mart & Best Buy have Blu-Ray plastered on a Display & have HD DVD somewhere hidden in a corner, then which format do you think they will choose?

I am just making a factual point here, because I was at 3 Wal-Mart’s & 2 Best Buy stores with the same crap. Blu-Ray displayed more aggressively then HD DVD.

Though I did notice that HD DVD were sold out on several titles where as Blu-Ray were stacked up.
