The only place we are disagreeing on is, I'm using MSRP pricing, where you are using the discounted prices from Amazon.

Ultimately, what the vendor decides to sell the disc for should not really impact the studio's profit margin, just the vendors.

The studios sell their discs for the same mark-up universally (maybe in the case of extremely large vendors that sell in extremely high numbers maybe they work out a economy of scale discount).

I'm saying the studios should place the same MSRP on all the Combo/Twin discs as the normal SD discs and placement of HD compatible DVDs in consumer's homes would skyrocket and greatly facilitate the public's progression to HD DVD disc ownership and eventually would replace SD DVDs with HD DVDs and HD DVD players.

Perhaps in the short term they would lose a slight amount of profit (maybe not), which would easily be replaced with not duplicating the manufacturer, packaging and shipping of two different formats and later increase profits due to economy of scale and vastly increased market share.

I used amazon pricing, simply because it is highly unlikely amazon is selling below what they paid. Studio is making somewhere between cost and amazon price.

Why should the studio take a hit today though when they can sell DVD, make decent money and sell Combo and make more money? As far as I know, studios don't gain much by either format winning.

Universal have a lot to gain, as they earn royalties on every HD DVD title sold, not just their own. Therefore it is in their interest to get as many HD DVDs sold regardless of studio as possible. I believe Paramount and Warner BRos are also on a royalties thing as part of the HD DVD Promotions Group, though I may be wrong.

Ok, then they should change how they are selling. They could have a much bigger impact then they are.

They don't want to risk too much investment on the format either, as if they pour millions into it, and it still tanks, they're in a worse position than they are now if it fails, they could also just be holding off for now while Sony have had a wave of pro Blu Ray announcements.

At the end of the day, we don't know the ins and outs, so we can't really tell them how to run their businesses. They're the ones earning millions a year, I guess they know what they're doing more than we do
