Did something happen with a lot of the PS3 exclusives?

I own a PS3 so I hope not.

Boy you leave for a day or so and you miss out.

Hey Lee not to get off topic... but it's just not the Anamorphic DVD that was making the difference it was the player as well. I put Spiderman 2 in my Dennon DVD upconverter (HDMI) on a 768p Panny Plasma and it looked like shit!

I put the Player in 1080i and it looked like shit even more!
Anyway... make a long story short I connected the Sony 720p/1080i DVP-NS975V up converting player, put it in 720p and in cinema 2 mode... and took plasma out of vivid and put it on standard.
What a difference! Still doesn't match the HD DVD player. So it has to be a combination of everything working... player... anamorphic disk....

Part of the problem could have been the Dennon was a DVI (player) to HDMI, (monitor).

So that HD DVD player has to have a tremendous up-converter! I put the disk back in the HD DVD player, and seen the difference!

I see alot of Sony fans not caring about blu shortcomings lately.
This really reminds me of dvd-a's failures.

Now studios are worried about how the 1gen players might not all work with the BD-J.

Sony have been leaking exlusives for a while so don't worry to much, the main reason is the cost of next gen development it makes little or no sense to only supply half the market if your a 3rd party developer when you can supply both sides and make more money.

But back to the original discussion with HD DVD ahead in stand alone players how long do people really think it will be before the gap in disc sales is significantly reduced? I think the Agust sales figures could be pretty telling as long as SAL sales keep up I feel that with the lower price points more, I could say average consumers, will be buying the players which may in return hurt the often mooted attach rate of discs to players but will do the job of inccreasing overal sales.

A great testimonial for the A2 Buford!

I just want to see the A2 list go down to $299 right now the A2 is $272.

The A2 is at #3 been that way for a while. stand alone sales are no doubt going to even out.
It won't happen over night but the trend is most definately in hd-dvd's favor. Just read the desperate posts by blu fan boys.
You can easily sense how worried they are. And predictably they deny everything.

The only issue I see hurting the disc sales is the one about people waiting for their 5 free movies.

Will they buy any after the immediate purchase? Or will they just wait for the 5 freebee's and possibly rent in the meantime?

I thought some big announcements happened while I was away and wissed them.

Thanks!

No one remains exclusive if being exclusive costs them money. There are only two reasons to be exclusive:

1) You believe you will make more money being exclusive as you can charge more due to reduced competition.

2) Someone is paying you off to offset the loss of income from being exclusive.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this link but I do not remember seeing this posted where Stringer says they are selling less than 10k PS3s per month in Japan:

http://www./news/sony-bos...expensive/4542

He also admits that Nintendo had a better plan than Sony did with the new consoles.

I am starting to worry that I should have bought a 360 for my son this past Christmas. I do use it to play BD movies though, and so far, my son still loves it.

Yep the main problem is that the "big hitters" that were expected to sell the system this xmas havn't materialised, MGS4 out after April 08, GT5 out after April 08 (possibly as late as Xmas 08), FFXIII out after 08, DMC4 multi format, GTA4 multi format with Xbox 360 exclusive content, Beautiful Katamari PS3 version cancelled, Ace Combat 6 multi format (possible Ps3 cancellation), Fatal Inertia first PS3 exclusive 12 months ago, then multi format, now 360 exclusive. Madden 08 and NCAA 2008 running at double the frame rate on the 360.

Sadly there is quite a lot of momentum out of the PS3 camp right now, but very little going towards. I was planning to pick up a PS3 this winter, but with most the titles I wanted either going multi format to a console I already own, or being delayed until April 08 at the earliest, I'm now no longer seeing much reason to buy one

Hopefully titles like Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Folklore, Home, Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank and the likes will match their hype and get a few must have titles out onto the console before Christmas as I honestly think if Sony don't start getting some console selling releases onto the system soon, next financial year may be too late, even if there is a price drop. On the otherhand, that newly announced Quantic Dream title that Sony are publishing sounds awesome. It's not all doom and gloom, just Sony are relying heavily on unknown quantities to shift their console in a market that traditionally don't like to buy something unless it has a number or year after the title.

Okay, back to the proper topic

In the end who wins will have nothing to do with who has the best product or technology. Which ever format is embraced by the massive porn industry will win. I recall reading that's what put VHS over the top in it's war with Beta. Once porn became available on VHS but not Beta... it was all over.

actually a lower price, superior recording times and much wider availibility are the primary factors that led to VHS succeeding against Betamax.
