Ok, I am trying to take a new take on HD, I am trying to get used to blu ray since I am going to buy a PS3.
First I saw Talladega, I put up with the constant amount of grains, then I gave Night at the Meusem a chance, MORE grain, then my bro got sent Casino Royale, and I thought, ok this is like THE blu ray movie, it's gotta be fantastic, BANG, the worst grain out of the lot, I am sick of all this blu ray is better crap, it's not. So what do I do? I go buy Smokin Aces on Combo disc. The quality, amazing, as the guy said at the store, Blur Ray. Come on blu ray fanboys, help me understand why your format is better, is Pirates whis bad? I want to think ur format is worth my money, but HD DVD is so much better! |

HD DVD is where it's at. Read the first link on my signature, then you would have had no problems.

Come on now, fellas... you know better.
If anyone feels the quality is poor, blame the studio. There is no technical reason the BR format would be of lesser video and audio quality. Don't make me bring out my speech from... HD DVD Supporters... What's the battle plan / how does HD DVD win? Most of the newer movies I've seen reviewed use the same video specs and have identical picture. This battle is about everything, but the technical specs of the formats.

Blu-ray's have better PQ and SQ on average (see dobyblue's chart of 5 major review sites). This wasn't true last year.
Casino Royale looks fantastic on my setup, though I've seen better on both formats. I take it you'll be very angry with 300 as that movie has a ton of film grain. Personally I'll sad if they filter out the grain. |

Permit me to rephrase - What Blueray player are you using to watch the BD's with? And what model HD DVD player are you using? You mention that you want to go with PS3, and along with the PS3 comes games + (a big plus) are BD movies. Just want to make sure you have everything configured correctly.

that is just NUTS that first gen blu players won't have the feature functionality that newer ones will have.
That's F---ed UP. Period. And Sony still chareged a grand per unit. Then blu fan boys wonder why all the Sony hate.

That's true, but HD DVD's movies are, on the average, a little older (mostly due to Universal's [a lot of catalogs in the mix] vs. Sony and Buena Vista's releases [lot's of new releases]) , and they will not normally get as high marks (particularly on the SQ) because of what the studios have to work with. I think that should be taken into consideration when looking at Doby's numbers.
