Thumbs up Alpha Dog in HD DVD

I just watched Alpha Dog and have to say it was quite good. It's a combo disk and no problems what-so-ever.

I agree. This is a very good movie in my opinion. Universal's movies lately give me the impression of being more real than other studios. CoM and Smokin' Aces were the same. Good Flicks and I bought The Hitcher based on my favorable impressions of Universals new releases. Who cares about box office?

How's The Hitcher? I defiantely plan on picking up Alpha Dog as it sounds just like my type of movie.

Yeah, Lucky # Slevin was surprisingly good, too. I haven't watched The Hitcher, but I'm sure my wife will like it as she loves horror movies (hopefully I'll like it, too)

I guess i'll just revive this thread instead of starting a new one. I just got around to watching Alpha Dog on HD-DVD last night and that movie is pretty damn disturbing. The picture quality was very good along with a good sounding lossless DTHD track. In fact, I would have to almost say this is definately one of Universal's best looking movies.

As for the plot, this movie cost me a night's sleep last night. Everytime I tried to sleep after watching this movie, I kept seeing that kid crying and begging for his life before he got whacked. Acting is petty good, although Timberflake was a bit goofy. I don't understand what the chicks go so crazy about when they see him................

I'll never see it, but it *does* have Amanda Seyfried in it. I want to have her baby.

Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but I thought the Hitcher sucked royally. Couldn't have been worse, IMO. I was excited to see it too because when I grew up I really liked the original Rutger Hauer version, plus I enjoy Sean Beans acting and thought he'd make a great psychopath. Unfortunately a ridiculous and predictable script ruined the whole thing. Not that the original wasn't ridiculous, but this one was even moreso. Besides all that, it wasn't the least bit scary at all. How do scripts like this attract well known actors, and how does the studio approve a final cut like this??? I can't see how you can truly enjoy this movie unless you are a 13 girl or are borderline retarded, lol.

It does have pretty awesome PQ though.

I'd heard the Hitcher was a complete dog myself. I was intrigued by it purely for Sean Bean really, always liked him since Sharpe (an ITV TV series set in the Napolionic war I think it was, either way it was against the French).

You didn't burst anyone's bubble. This movie was not good at all. Way too predictable and corny but not in a campy way, just bad acting.

Alpha Dog, on the other hand, was quite well done. No bad acting, IMO. Timberlake is pretty good in this one. It should not be passed over just because Timberlake is in it. He fits the part he plays quite well.

Alpha Dog is a really good movie, I haven't seen it on HD but I have seen the SD version of it. The most disturbing part of that movie is that it is based on REAL people and a REAL event. Its pretty wild. If you get a chance google Jesse James Hollywood and you should get to see all sorts of stories about the people the movie was based on.

Opinions are opinions. Alpha Dog is worst movie I've seen this years. I turned it off at about the 15 minute mark when one person defecated on someone else's carpet. The Hitcher was an average movie for me but at least I watched the whole thing.

Sadly, you took the defacation part out of context. After that happened, things got really crazy. There was no more defacation.

But, as you say, it's a matter of taste.

Most likely it is a matter of a generation gap.
