Default Email from WB (more HD DVD coming)

This is a reply from WB to those who sent emails (I copied this from elsewhere as I didn't get my reply yet) Sounds encouraging at least, especially given all the bad and misleading news given lately to HD DVD fans.

Quote:
First of all, thank you for your support of Warner Bros. and for our films in the new HD DVD format, as well as the existing SD DVD format. As you have pointed out in your note, there have recently been on-line discussions claiming that Warner Home Video is holding titles back from the marketplace in the HD DVD format due to plans in BD, and that this is now a company policy. Regardless of the source of this information, it is not true.

Warner Home Video is releasing titles in both high definition formats, and where possible we try to release a title simultaneously in both formats. But this is not always the case, and in fact since we released our first titles in April, 2006 there have been some titles that have been released in HD DVD before BD, and some that have been released in BD before HD DVD.

There are many factors that determine the timing for the release of a motion picture in DVD, HD DVD, and BD. We currently have released more titles in HD DVD than any other studio, and we are anticipating a very exciting schedule for the rest of 2007. In the month of January 2007, we released 4 new titles in HD DVD.

We hope you will enjoy our upcoming HD DVD releases, including two of our best movies from last year (and both recognized with multiple Academy Award nominations), THE DEPARTED and HAPPY FEET, which will be released in February and March 2007, respectively.

We also expect to announce shortly some title plans for April and May. The titles will be quite a thrill for all HD DVD owners and supporters.

Best regards.

This is good news. Warner has got some of my favorite movies in their archives. For the life of me however, I cannot figure out why none of the studios, BD or HD DVD exlusive or otherwise, are releasing the "really good" movies. What are they waiting for? And why are the lame movies seeming to come out first? Doesn't anyone else feel this way? Right now, I want eye candy! I want killer soundtracks! I can wait for all the dramas and critically acclaimed stuff later.

Doesn't anyone else feel that way sometimes?

I do.

I think all HD DVD fans are extremely frustrated by the lack of content lately, and the way it looks, we'll basically be on life support until April. All I know is that I'll be expecting them to deliver on their promise of 600 titles (includes last year) by the EOY. If they start April, there's gonna be an avalanche of releases, enough to distract everyone from the content advantage that BD has. Then we'll all be talking about hardware.

Thanks for posting this. I hope they give us dates for the Matrix Trilogy and the Harry Potter movies - and hopefully they'll be the ones that are coming out in April and May. Probably wishful thinking...

NP, WUV. We need a boost. I just hope that NBC Universal, given the change at the top of command, will issue at statement soon to reassure us of their commitment because I'm really getting sick of all this shit.

Where did you find it? I've been looking on AVS and couldn't find it posted anywhere.

Well, here's a possibility:

Knowing that the "research firms" just gather data without regards to the underlying rationale for the data, suppose everybody's saving up to dump a vast load of HD DVD's on the market simultaneously which will:

1) Get them big PR compared to letting them out one-by-one.

2) Absolutely *boggle* the sales data for the research firms.

3) Absolutely silence any arguments about the content disparity between HD DVD and Blu-Ray (it won't matter if the argument doesn't really hold water, who's going to believe someone touting Blu-Ray's content advantage when 100 HD DVD's suddenly appear on the market.

Pretty devious. I like it. Wonder if it's true?

I'd like to think that the HD DVD group has an effective game plan. I'm really getting tired of the BD fanboys whipping out the content card, as if there were no other cards in the deck. A deluge of HD DVD releases would certainly help.

Only devious if WB is involved, but I know they prefer HD DVD and are supporting BD only to play fair. But playing "fair" in the open and behind closed doors may be two different things.

Agreed. Add to it some cheap players and we'll be good to go. Im hoping the HD DVD bomb gets dropped sometime after June and the BD people can have their turn shitting their pants.

Thank you for posting that. After one miserable day fighting through a snow storm on the road, I really needed some good news. 24 miles in 6 hours, and over half a tank of gas used.............

I guess that puts to rest another nasty HD-DVD rumor that's floating around as it simply isn't true that Warner is deliberately holding back HD-DVD releases. The fact that we are supposed to see 300+ movies released this year means that our needs should be soon satisfied. I just hope that many of them are before the middle of the year.
