Okay, I can accept that. I've just never known you to be grounded in reality, so I took it as a thread-crap.

My apologies.

Day & Date = it comes out at the same time as the SD DVD version.

It means delivering the HD version on the same day/date as the DVD. Good news if they plan to do this frequently.

Yeah, I hope they do some forced combos with those.

While I personally like the combos, I have agreed with Jimmy before: combos should be IN ADDITION to a regular HD movie.

It's a small quibble, and it ain't gonna happen (nice grammar from the english teacher!) but I wish I had the option because there are some movies for which I don't want/need an SD side.

I wish Bill Hunt mentioned about the additional gouging prices BB/CC are charging for those combo discs, and what his response (or if he even knows) to those much higher prices is.

I guess this answers the question about Universal going neutral now. It didn't make any sense to me that they could even consider this, but I know others had expressed concern when Universal didn't announce any titles at CES.

There are some great movies in that list and I may not be able to afford to buy another HD-DVD player with all those titles coming out using up a lot of my money.

It seems to me that the people who do not like the combo discs are the ones who live alone or only watch movies on their one HDTV (or have an HD-DVD player in the bedroom too), but many of us don't mind them because it allows us to watch the movie in another room in the house where we do not have a HD-DVD player.

Thanks for the links/info Bruce!

Good point, but the studios understandably can't please everybody with their packaging decisions, and I agree with the direction they are taking. No reason to have 3 or 4 versions of the same movie cluttering the shelves and causing confusion.

I guess The Bland will have to go back and buy another HD DVD player (he just returned his HD-A2), unless he had more than one (which I wouldn't doubt).

PFC5, I think that Universal at first may charge the standard $5.00 more for the combo discs, but I think that by later in the year, given the volume they will be doing, they will eliminate the combo "surcharge". Regardless, it sure beats the high BD disc prices!

Combos usually cost $35-40. No different to the pricing from the Fox and Disney but without the lossless audio.

Catalog combos from Universal are $34.95 ($23.95 at Amazon).

Catalog titles from Fox are $39.95 ($27.95 at Amazon)

New release combos from Universal, however, are the same price as Fox.

Maybe if you pay MSRP. Shopping at Amazon, you'll pay between 23.95 and 27.95 for a combo, with the occasional title dropping to $19.95.

I always do buy at Amazon. X-men the Last Stand is the only title I ever bought from the store.

Then you KNOW that the Fox catalog titles cost more than the combo discs already then.
