Exclamation NEWS FLASH: Blu-ray DVDs ripped via PS3

PS3News.com is reporting that you can rip (dump) Blu-ray DVDs using a PS3.

http://www.ps3news.com/forums/site-n...ped-40441.html

PS3 owners...please confirm if this is legit.

People who distribute warez piss me off, as they force the studios to come up with even more draconian forms of copy protection that punish innocent people like us. I think we all saw this coming though, and maybe this will help persuade the studios to start moving towards HD-DVD.

Actually the article said something that made me chuckle. That the file was being distributed on `Linux Warez Groups`.

Linux Wares Groups? How does a FOSS platform have Warez Groups??

Knock-on-wood...How long before we see a report about the XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on being used to rip HD-DVDs?

I know, and the thought of that scares the crap out of me. However, let's hope that the media get's too busy blitzcreiging this issue on Blu-ray, and forgets about HD-DVD.

Thumbs down

Old news and who cares? Dumping a disc is nothing. Remember, when AACS is cracked, HD DVD will die. Blu-ray however will live on. Thank god for BD+!

It's not Microsoft's fault that 98% of hackers out there have a hatred for Microsoft and are always finding ways to hack and do some illegal stuff. I don't understand why people blame Microsoft, when they are the ones that try to fix up such holes when exposed in a reasonable amount of time. If these 98% of hackers started devoting their meager lives to start hacking MacOS, i'm pretty sure you'd hear about a lot of security problems.

There also wouldn't be a kazillion security updates to the Xbox, and there hasn't been a single one yet.

P.S., I don't care whether you voted for Bush or not.

Its not even that they hate Microsoft - its that they want to have the biggest impact. How do you do that? Target the largest majority. That would be MS in the computing space.

Are you a movie exec?

If not, why do you care so much about the encryption? I don't think its anything consumers should worry about at all. We should let them worry about it and worry about PQ/AQ, cost..etc. We should also be concerned about flexibility with our formats. I know HD-DVD is a bit more flexible with rights - I'm not sure how that applies yet though..

You obviously don't have a clue how AACS works.

You're right, but could you please you tell me how my statement was inaccurate? I just repeated what Andy Parsons, my hero, said.

Are you referring to watermarking? Do you not think AACS will eventually be cracked?

It's a good first step, I guess... Wake me up when they've actually decrypted it and burned it onto a BD.

Eventually yes...I don't think Hollywood and CE manufacturers can keep AACS unblemished.
