You don't have to have tons of movies to get the benefit of this. I've been ripping my dvds for years now. You do a couple of movies here and there. Before you know it you have a digital collection like mine.
How young do you have to be to do this? I just turned 48. Sure older folks might not do this. But this is a cool thing to do for younger people with young children. An 80 gig iPod in a sturdy case can hold a big music collection with a bunch of movies for the road. Perfect for the minivan. Ill keep my precious Bluray at home where they belong.

I wanted to add. I don't think these players will sell very well. Not if Bluray sales are an indicator. Sales are going to be flat to negative in 2013 for yoy sell through. Bluray has not made a very big impact. Especially when you compare it to DVD. I think a majority of people will stick with DVD players in vehicles. You just won't see the benefit on screens that size.

Blu ray isnt the only thing it comes with. The blu ray system comes with 2 screens while the DVD system only has one.

More options are better than less options.

The difference between Blu-ray and DVD on such a small screen might not matter a lot to me but I do prefer to watch movies using a disc player compared to a tablet. I have a 10" tablet with 32GB, it is a pain to legally load movies on it, never have bothered and don't know how to do it really but buy a disc, I can legally play it in any player. A built in Blu-ray player with surround sound would be great for music, that is about all I have used our in dash DVD player for and Blu-ray player would handle the DVD music discs as well as Blu-ray music discs. I don't know how to do that with a tablet either.

I expect that Blu-ray players in automobiles will be a tiny niche market but I don't expect anybody will have difficulty seeing the advantage compared to tablets or smart phones.

Well that might get people to add the system. Maybe more so for the second screen though.

And if it's a pain for someone like you, it's even more so for the average joe.

What's that say about me who finds it easy! I have no moral issues ripping my DVDs to load onto my iPod. I bought them and I think I can watch the contents any way I like. As long as I don't sell copies of it the studios can go screw themselves as far as I'm concerned. They have got me to double and triple dip more times than I care to admit. If they ever gave me a hard time about doing what I do I'd probably look into pirating!

The studios should love me as a customer. I've been a big supporters of theirs for decades! Movies and Music!

I agree Mal. I have a backup copy or two lying around myself and the studios have made a fortune off me as it is. So I feel I can take some liberties as long as it's for personal use.

Yup. And I have to think the studios don't care that much about what I/we do. I think they really want to go after the people downloading and sharing their media on the internet. I think they exaggerate their losses because of piracy though, but that's a whole nother debate.

Yep, but that's a good thing. I still haven't found anything I agree with Gizmo on yet.
