Wonder why Iger doesn't jump on the 56 day embargo? Warner needs someone in their corner.
![]() I have never thought this was a good way to keep consumers happy and purchasing new releases, seems very anti consumer, especially with the economy, trying to force the customers hand is dangerous. |

Torrents Quenes just keep larger and larger. It's only going to backfire. Consumers won't wait. They will find alternative methods to watch these films.

How is this going to affect consumers? Redbox is just going to buy them off the street anyway.

Disc by mail is declining market and is primarily used for catalog rentals. Besides, hot new releases generally have a long wait anyway.
I think the studios are clearly seeing that the death (or at least large decline) of the OD rental market is in their best interests, as the tiny margins they receive are likely more than offset by the lost sales due to the huge rental vs. sell-through price differential. It's hard to blame them for trying to protect the value of sell-through.

The decline of the OD rental market is already occurring, in tandem with the decline of OD sell through. There is really not much they can do to stop either trend, but they probably would prefer to weaken OD rental if it can help OD sell through at all. |
