AQ-wise, the DVD and HDX sound about the same, while the BD sounds much better.

I now realize how UV works, and that you have a main account with the UV site itself, which is linked to the sub-accounts (like VUDU and Flixster). So even though a provider like VUDU may go away, you'll always have your movies available from the UV main account and just need to find another provider to stream them. Over time I imagine the provider list will grow.

The nice thing about UV is the ease of adding movies. You just go to either your provider (I use VUDU) or the UV site and enter the code. Nothing to download. Also I am pleasantly surprised that I'm getting the HDX versions. The SD version would be useless to me, as the quality gap between it and Blu-ray is so huge, that watching it on a big screen would be painful.

I'm more optimistic that UV will survive now, and that Disney will eventually come on board. If not, it makes buying their movies on BD less attractive for UV users and would gradually start to impact sales.
We are also still waiting on the UV Common File format for people who like to download the files to their servers, PCs or whatnot. This has been delayed time and time again. Im now being told it will become available this spring.

Should be next couple months. If you check out uvvu.com, they added a beta version of their Devices page which they will use for which devices can play your CFF files. Unfortunately, there's no way to add a device that I can see yet. But it appears it's still progressing.

Six Questions: Mark Teitell, GM of Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem/UltraViolet

Quote:
Can we offer consumers an update on the status of UltraViolet’s common file format?

Teitell: UltraViolet Common File Format (CFF) makes download functionality consistent across all UltraViolet retailers and service providers. It empowers consumersto transfer or copy downloaded files on any UltraViolet-compliant device or app, without re-downloading or using bandwidth. DECE, the industry consortium behind UltraViolet, is currently in a beta and interoperability testing stage for CFF deployments, and CFF is expected to become available in the United States in late 2013.
