Default Blu-ray demos at box stores

The blu-ray demos I see at my local BB seem to pop or give an almost 3d effect that my set-up does not produce. I have a 40in. Sammy 530 and a Sammy blu-ray 1500. Any help would be appreciated as I am a newb.

Many factors could be coming into play. First, are the brand and model of the BD player and TV in the store identical to your own? If so are the settings, such as color, contrast, etc., the same? Also, are they playing the same BD media as you? BD picture quality can vary quite a bit from title to title.

These are just a few things that come to mind. I'm sure some of the more experienced forum members can shed more light on your question.

Hi and welcome to HDF

Have you calibrated your HDTV using a calibration test disc like this one?

http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Video-...0305968&sr=8-1

Can you tell us what the number values for the following image adjustments are (and the scale like 50/100 = means 50 out of a possible 100)

Contrast
Brightness
Color
Sharpness

No the 2 store demos I have seen are a Sony bravia and sony blu-ray and an LG tv/blu-ray setup. And I've come to realize that these models do have better specs than mine which could also factor in. Also they are showing clips from alot of movies that I do not have yet. Thanks for taking the time.

Thank you. I actually have purchased the DVE disc and quickly lost patience with it. I ended up using settings that I found on tweakmytv.
* Backlight : 4
* Contrast : 100
* Brightness : 37
* Sharpness : 0
* Color : 46
* Tint : G51/R49
Thanks again.

From a quick glance - I would say that your Contrast is too high.

You really need to use the disc and work on your Contrast setting. Too high a Contrast setting will destroy the very fine detail that Bluray (and HD in general) is capable of.

Understand that Contrast and Brightness will interact with each other so you need to go back and forth on those two until you get a "happy medium."

When calibrating a display - keep this in mind . . . less is more.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to give the DVE another chance.
