Hi guys,
When i watch TV (Cox Cable), I can set the volume to about level 12-15 and thats loud enough. However, when I watch blu ray movies, the audio comes through real low, and I have to set it to 30-38 in order to clearly hear the dialogue. I find myself using sub titles most of the time. =( Here's my setup. Samsung BDP4600 blu ray player, hooked up through HDMI to Samsung Plasma TV. No surround speakers, sound bars, etc. Sound is from TV. Audio settings on Blu ray and TV are manufacturers default. I'm not knowledgable on those settings so I dont mess with them. any help? what else do you need from me to know my issues? Thanks. |

Change the audio settings on your tv to at least Dolby digital. Me current set up is a 50" sammy plasma, with a panasonic bd player, but this is passed over to a onkyo receiver. When playing bd's, me tv is exceptionally loud when me forgets to mute it and let the receiver do the work.

Yes check your TV audio settings and use the AUTO setting, but likely you will need to change the settings in the BD player. I don't have a Samsung BD player so I am not sure what settings are available, but if it is set for PCM output change it to Dolby Digital. If that does not correct it, or it is set to DD already try down mixing to PCM 2 channel output. Look for any "night" setting and turn that off as that will lower the overall sound to even out so the explosions are not as loud compared to dialog when the subject whispers.
As a last resort you should try any dialog enhancement setting your player may have. This will generally bring the center channel output from the 5.1/7.1 soundtrack to a louder level compared to the other audio channels and could solve the problem. Hope this helps & welcome to the forum!
