Cool Huh ??

Could it possibly be because NOT ALL channels are HD ??????? You probably only have 20-30 HD channels on your cable, and as you stated, they are in the 700 range. Everything else is SD.

Cuz they still broadcast SD as well as HD.

If you're thinking that the "switchover" meant that everything was going HD, that's not correct.
The "switchover" was from analog to digital broadcasting - had nothing to do with SD and HD.

Probably because all channels are not HD and not every program on the HD channels will be in HD.

Digital does not now, nor has it ever meant HD. Digital cable and satelite TV (both digital) were around for a few years before anything was broadcast in HD.

Just an FYI. All HD broadcast via OTA, Satellite, or cable must be digital because that is the HD spec, but not all digital has to be HD.

For the last several years we have been telling people that when the changeover occurs it will not change much for how much HD content we have because of that FYI above. I believe/hope that now that the digital changeover has occurred that it makes more content make the bext transition from digital SD material to HD material, but it will unfortunately take a long time for that to happen. Some content providers updated some of the digital equipment to HD quality equipment as part of the changeover I am sure, but most likely just got converting equipment to convert the analog material to digital material, and is still in SD.

To those of you old enough to remember, when color TV came along, it took quite a while before most programming could be viewed in color. As I remember the same scenario took place. Network programming gradually switched as more and more people purchased color sets. The local's took longer because color camera's and transmitting equipment were quite expensive.

I remember the first color program I saw was "I Dream of Jeannie". It's kind of hard to forget seeing Barbara Eden's genie costume in "living color", especially when you're a 12 year old boy.
