Default Why has the price risen?

OK, way back in 2007 I purchased a Philips DVDR3575H/37 at Walmart for just under $300 and now the same unit with same model number is selling at Amazon for $799.99 (see link). That's like more than double the price! I compared the specs and they look identical.

Now I'm pleased, no make that I'm very pleased with my unit. But when electronics are supposed to go up in features and down in price what is the story with this unit? I could sell my unit used for more than I paid for it, not that I'm willing, I was looking to get a second unit).

Any insight appreciated,

That unit is an older model and is not really sold anypalce really. The store on amazon that is selling it "Action Packaged, Inc." is on crack.. Walmart still shows the price on their webpage for $288, but has not carried it in quite a while.. A few other retail sites show it for $249, but ALL of them say it is no longer avaliable or a deactivated item.. So you can't compare it as a true price..

Here is a current Magnavox model with very simular/better spec for $249.. I seen them online with 250 GB hard drives for $299 or less..

Thanks, Bigloww

I wonder why Amazon doesn't cull out these dubious sellers?
