Default What is enhanced definition

Is enhanced definition something I don't want to get involved with? I'm thinking about buying a 42” Sony Plasma TV that was obtained in 2006. The seller advertises it is an enhanced definition television that still shows high definition images.

Key features:
• Model: Sony FWD42V1 Black
• Color Systems: PAL/SECAM/NTSC/PAL-N/PAL-M Plasma Monitor
• 42” Ultra Bright Plasma Display with 10,000:1 Contrast Ratio. Ideal for television, HD content or PC signals.
• Picture in Picture
• Digital Video Input (DVI-D HDCP): The DVI input function offers a high picture quality when used with a DVI-equipped cable box or PC (DVI video cable required). Other inputs: RGB/Component, Composite (BNC) and S-Video
• Displays Standard Definition and High Definition Formats including 1080/60i, 720/60P, 1080/24Psf, and 480/60P Video
• Lower power consumption at only 260W
• Multi-Layer AR Coated Panel. The anti-reflection (AR) coating on the glass protection panel reduces light reflection for clear, high contrast pictures.
• Selectable Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 16:9, Wide Zoom, Letter Box Zoom, or Standard 4:3.
• Includes Remote Control and manuals.
• Sony SPM-TRI/C Clear Stand (added option that cost $290.00)

What are they asking for it??
Unless you are getting for a $100 or something, I would pass. ED is not nearly as good as HD but better than SD. Many ED TV's that I have sen in the day have a native resolution of 852Ũ480 (480p). Most HD sets today are either 1366x768 (720/768p) or 1920x1080 (1080p). much higher pixel count and sharper images. You can get a new 42'' 720p plasma for around $600 now that would be a much better display. So unless you are getting it for a song, later days.. ED was a lower cost substatute during the expensive early HDTV days. No real place for it anymore since prices are way down and HD programing is everyplace. And no built in digital tuners either for OTA/QAM. No HDMI and so on..

Panasonic TC-P42X1 42'' plasma at Sears for $599..

I could get it for $200. It was purchased in 2006. Would you suggest I pass. Basically, I don't watch a whole lot of TV. I would pretty much just be watching this ED TV with my comcast cable. Thanks for your imput.

Also purchasing an almost 4 year old plasma from a company (Sony) that no longer manufactures plasma... Seems like a real roll of the dice and not worth it in my opinion.....

I havent researched it but somehow I doubt Sony manufactured a EDTV plasma model......so my guess is its a 1024X720 resolution like many older plasmas were

whoops found it and it is EDTV and only capable of displaying at 480p max

Number of Pixels 852 (H) x 480 (V)
Dot Pitch 1.08 mm
Contrast Ratio 10000:1
Brightness (Normal Mode/High Brightness Mode) 500 cd/mē
Displayable Colors 1.07Billion Colors
Viewing Angle 160 (Degrees)

I revise my opinion: if it is the only way you currently have of upgrading your viewing experience then for $200.00 give it a shot it is a plasma and it is a Sony..........what ya got to lose other than $200.00
