Hi,
This is my first post. I have purchased a Panasonic TCP42G10 panel, a Panasonic SCBT100 HTIB/Blueray and my HD cablebox/ DVR is a Motorola DCT6416/ HDMI. I've read and reread the hookup instructions for these components and I am thoroughly confused as to the best hookup solution. I would include the links to the manuals for the Panasonic pieces however I'm informed by the group admin that I can't post URLS untill I'e posted 5 times...sorry. I will attach a photo of the rear panel of the Motorola however. The manuals are available In PDF on the Panasonic site. If anyone can provide me with a solution/suggestion I would be eternally grateful. Help Please!! Thanks Pisbee. |

Hi and welcome to HDF!
You can connect your cable box to your Panny by utilizing the Red/Blue/Green connection (Y/Pb/Pr) called component connection for video. For audio, use an optical SPDIF cable (Toslink).

There are several options here. The one(s) you choose depend on the capabilities of your HTIB receiver.
If the receiver processes audio over HDMI and if it passes through HDMI video, then you would simply connect the cable box to the receiver using HDMI and the receiver to your TV using another HDMI cable. If the receiver lacks that capability, then you could use HDMI from the cable box to the TV for video and optical from the cable box to the receiver for audio. Stew's suggestion of using component video cables will also work just fine, although some people find the video quality is better with HDMI instead of component. |

Hi All,
This is my 2nd post. Especially confusing is hookup from cable box to SCBT100 main unit to panel. I would include the links to the manuals for the Panasonic pieces however I'm informed by the group admin that I can't post URLS until I've posted 5 times...sorry. I will attach a photo of the rear panel of the Motorola however. The manuals are available In PDF on the Panasonic site. I gotta tell you...the manuals must have been translated from Norwegian or something equally as weird If anyone can provide me with a solution/suggestion I would be eternally grateful. Help Please!! Thanks Pisbee. |

HDMI is the best cable for hooking up anything.
monoprice.com is a good place to get cheap HDMI cables, from what I head around here. |

Don't come out of the Motorola with the optical audio, use the TV's optical out jack to your HTiB would be my suggestion

That may not work as many TV's will only send audio out from it's own internal tuner (OTA) and would be limited to 2 channel even if it did work. So my original recommendation still stands if everything is to work properly.

LTW is correct (as usual), run the audio straight out of the cable box into the HTIB with optical or dig. coax to get surround. Out of the tv's own optical out will produce stereo only.

Thanks alot for the quick response to my pleas for help.
Will the HDMI/optical hookup that has been suggested be compatible with the Viera Link operation or will it require the old multiple remote control routine? And lastly...any recommendations as to type and or make of acceptable HDMI and Optical cables for this hookup. Thanks...

Look to monoprice.com for all of your cable needs. High quality cables at low, low prices.
As for the Viera link (HDMI CEC) it may work and it may not. As there is no real standard, some devices work great together while other manufacturers equipment won't. It's a crap shoot at this point. |

Actually, I just bought the Panasonic U1 plasma, and connected my PS3 via HDMI to it, then ran an optical to my receiver through the TV and it reproduces the sound as surround sound (if single is DD or DTS).
